  • Beyond The Pitch: CanMNT & Beşiktaş midfielder Atiba Hutchinson 🍁⚽
In the latest episode of Beyond the Pitch, CanPL.ca & OneSoccer's Kristian Jack sits down with none other than Atiba Hutchinson, one of Canada's all-time best footballers, as the Beşiktaş midfielder prepares for the men's national team's latest run of 2022 FIFA World Cup final round qualifiers. Hutchinson discusses playing in Turkey, interest in English Premier League clubs, and what makes this Canada squad, just a handful of matches away from qualifying for their first World Cup in 35 years, so special to the 38-year-old veteran.
Canada's men's team will be next in action on Friday when they face Costa Rica in Edmonton (9:00pm ET/7:00pm MT live on OneSoccer).

  • Weekend Roundup: Marco Bustos joins show as CPL Playoffs are set
In the latest episode of the CanPL.ca Newsroom, hosts Marty Thompson, Charlie O’Connor Clarke, and Kristian Jack are joined by none other than Pacific FC attacker (and fan of the show) Marco Bustos to recap York United’s playoff-clinching weekend… And all the bizarre moments that followed.
First up, the gang recap York’s 2-1 905 Derby loss to Forge FC (2:00) and how a “gritty” York team could mount a playoff push against Forge in the first round.
Next up was Valour FC’s devastating late stab at making the playoffs, coming from three goals down to draw FC Edmonton 3-3 (12:20). The gang sheds a tear for Bustos’ former club who was a William Akio header away from getting the win. Plus, what on earth do FCE coach Alan Koch and his Valour opposite Phil Dos Santos have to say after that final 15 minute frenzy?
HFX Wanderers FC’s 1-1 draw with Atlético Ottawa (22:11) was up next – Wanderers Grounds gave Halifax a push… But it wasn’t enough. Plus, of course, we had to discuss Matthew Arnone’s sending off which almost sent Marco back off his chair.
Finally, Cavalry FC vs. Pacific FC – the playoff preview that ended with a Cavs win. What can we say about a matchup that’s been evenly split (three wins each, one draw) going into an unprecedented winner-take-all semi-final slated for Calgary?

  • York & Valour put up season-defining playoff hunt wins, ‘Angry Forge‘ strikes again 💥💥
In the latest episode of the CanPL.ca Newsroom, hosts Marty Thompson, Charlie O’Connor Clarke, and Kristian Jack cap one of the more enjoyable CPL weekends ever – from goals to controversial calls to, of course, the massive playoff implications that came with them.
First up, our trio had to – had to – address York United’s massive 2-1 win over Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium where the hosts succumbed to some controversial calls and, Lukas MacNaughton’s missed penalty. Why did he take it and what’s next for a PFC side set to miss their talismanic defender. Also, how about Lowell Wright and York United who took pole position for the fourth and final playoff spot with the win.
Next up is Valour FC’s massive 4-2 win over Cavalry FC. Powered by William Akio, how did they become the first team to score four goals against Cavalry in CPL history and what has Phil Dos Santos done to power their team back into the playoff hunt going into a massive final matchday against FC Edmonton?
Finally, the gang caps HFX Wanderers’ massive 4-1 loss to Forge FC. What went wrong for Stephen Hart’s side in their second big loss of the week and what about “angry Forge” who looked bitter after their heartbreaking loss to CF Montreal.

  • Supersonic Canada, Cavs-HFX roll with it as playoff run heats up 🎸🔥
In the latest episode of the CanPL.ca Newsroom, hosts Marty Thompson, Charlie O’Connor Clarke, Kristian Jack, Benedict Rhodes, and Emily Wilson recap a monumental week in Canadian soccer, including in the ever-exciting chase for the playoffs in CPL action.
Oh, and there are many Oasis puns coming your way – just listen.
First up is Cavalry FC and HFX Wanderers’ 0-0 draw (5:23) that could have ended 5-0. The gang asks, simply, how the Cavs failed to grab three points in a crucial race for home-field advantage come playoff time. Also, how about that Kerin Baskett save?
Next up was York United’s frustrating draw to FC Edmonton (17:30). What’s going on with fifth place York and, you know we needed to talk about Easton Ongaro!
An “Emily game” if there ever was one, Pacific FC’s 3-2 thriller of a win over Valour FC (24:01) left the five-piece purring and asking if PFC can play all four of their attacking starlets in Josh Heard, Alejandro Diaz, Marco Bustos, and Terran Campbell.
Next up was Forge FC and their dominant season-sweeping win over Atlético Ottawa (37:15) ahead of their big Concacaf League match at midweek. A first CPL start for Omar Browne paid off for Hamilton.

The two discuss Buchanan’s rapid ascent with Canada, scoring that goal against Mexico in the Gold Cup, and preview the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, starting Thursday against the aforementioned Mexican side (9:40pm ET/6:30pm PT on OneSoccer and Sportsnet).

In the latest episode of the CanPL.ca Newsroom, hosts Marty Thompson, Charlie O’Connor Clarke, and Kristian Jack are joined by OneSoccer’s Adam Jenkins for a thorough run-through of this weekend’s games in the Canadian Premier League.
First up is HFX Wanderers FC’s narrow 1-0 win over FC Edmonton (2:30) as Joao Morelli’s goal papered some cracks for the playoff hopefuls at Wanderers Grounds. How will Halifax play to their home advantage and why did Edmonton talisman Easton Ongaro get subbed out as the side looked to get a point or more?
Next was Atlético Ottawa’s triumphant 3-1 win over Cavalry FC (15:01) led by captain Drew Beckie who returned from an extensive layoff to score in just the second minute. • Beyond the Pitch: HFX Wanderers forward João Morelli

João talks about that big upcoming match, how the city of Halifax has boosted his exploits on the pitch, and his near-death experience as a child after a tragic zipline accident.
