At CBC in Nashville this past May, BA Chief Economist, Bart Watson, encouraged brewery owners / operators to be more creative in finding ways to reach new audiences. An historically underserved community breweries can do a better job of reaching is the disability community. There are three levels of accommodations: ADA compliance, Accessibility & Inclusivity. This session will focus on the difference between the three levels and focus on how breweries can be more accessible to people with disabilities. Creating a great customer experience that accommodates more people is good for the community and the bottom line. ADA compliance is important but is the minimum requirement. Easy to implement, actionable information will be shared by a panel composed of a disability rights advocate, brewery architect, and brewery owner. Attendees of this session will discover how they can appeal to and support customers with disabilities while maintaining the integrity of their existing brewery brand.

Chris Holden, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hop Guild and a grower in New York state, will give his State of the Hop Industry address. He will discuss the 2023 growing season, importane of selection and proper contracting, and what makes New York Hops unique. Join Chris for this informative session on the state of hops and learn insight into how to prepare for the future.

Christopher Holden grew up on my families farm and now the 7th generation to farm the property. His great great grandfather grew hops in the 1800's on our farm. The current operation started in 2013 and they've been slowly expanding the operation ever sense. In 2018 Chuck Rhoades and Christopher started The HOPGUILD (New York Hop Guild) to help with problems many brewers were facing with locally grown hops. Quality, Quantity and lastly Consistency. Brewers had to do to much work to make sure that year over year they had the local hops they needed. They quickly expanded outside New York with offering hops grown in the PNW, Michigan, Germany and New Zealand!

Jon Hyman is Shareholder and Director at Wickens Herzer Panza in Avon, Ohio, where he is the Chairperson of the firm’s Craft Beer and Employment/Labor practice groups. Jon focuses his practice on management-side labor and employment law, providing businesses proactive solutions to solve their workforce problems and reactive solutions when they find themselves litigating against an employee or group of employees. Jon also serves a niche in the craft beer industry, assisting breweries, brewpubs, and taprooms navigate their specialized business, legal, and regulatory issues.

Jon is a nationally recognized speaker, and the author of the renowned and award-winning Ohio Employer Law Blog (an American Bar Association Blawg Hall of Fame inductee), which he updates daily to provide businesses and human resources professionals breaking news and other updates on the ever-changing landscape of labor and employment law.

Finally, Jon was a November 1999 contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, but sadly lacked the fastest fingers.

Anderson holds an MBA in Sustainable Business, and is a 15-year beverage industry veteran with a commercial portfolio that includes national beer education roles with the Boston Beer Company as well as global hops sales management roles with Kalsec and NZ Hops Ltd. Outside of a love for training and education, Anderson has consulted for breweries, cannabis beverage producers, and commercial hop producers and brands. Anderson is also a Certified Cicerone®, Certified BJCP judge, and has completed over 140 hours of in-person beer sensory training with the esteemed Dr. Bill Simpson.
