In this episode, we do a quick mental health check in and discuss EMO-tions and how we utilize lyrics and creative writing. The conversation included musicians and artists that changed our preteen outlook of how lyrics DO NOT always follow the rules and how they allow connections to others allowed us to be silly and nostalgic. Their styles shaped us as writers and creative thinkers as we send these artists all our love and appreciation (all these years later, because you know, we are old and used tape recorders and boom boxes to make mix tapes...). Ahh, the good old days.
On the scientific front, song lyrics help people process emotions and harness creativity, lower your blood pressure, and get better sleep while you're listening. So many ways, so many avenues to learn from our feelings. Consideration should always be taken when writing, in regards to processing traumatic events - some things NEED the assistance of a trusted professional to hold your hand and help guide you through the murky waters,
Poetry is a huge area of expressive writing. Some styles come with rules and parameters to follow, and for the obedient population, this can be grounding. For others, it can feel restrictive. Just like S & M... Some times you feel like a sub, sometimes you don't.
We ponder the links of mental illness, creativity, and all the scientific research methods that prove you do NOT have to be mentally ill to be creative and vice versa. Luckily, in some cases, it helps, so GO TEAM :). Maybe. Or finally our disorders may actually be beneficial to something. Who knows?
Come learn about alternate ways to show off your Creative Copes through poetry, free writing, journaling, junk journaling, fridge magnet poetry, scrapbooking and the list goes on and on and on..... Love and Light ♥
