  • Episode 21: Dispatch No. 5 (Full Broadcast)

What do a bassist who's kept the faith for fifty years, a Nashville born country singer who found her real family in Knoxville, and a multi-instrumentalist who calls his gift an affliction all have in common? They all figured out that there is no shortcut for experience, that community beats competition every time, and that belief always comes before validation.

In Episode 21 of Creative Evolution, host Josi J brings you the July Evolution Report, live and solo from the RadioKCM studio.

    In this episode we revisit:

Episode 18 with Mike Hamer. Fifty plus years on bass. US Army veteran. The man who reminded us that mastery means learning it all, then forgetting it, and just playing. His golden rule: keep the faith, even when the business hands you every reason not to.

Episode 19 with Alicia Harvey. Nashville born, Knoxville made. CMA member, BMI songwriter, and 2024 Josie Music Award winner for Song of the Year. From a step stool in her grandmother's bar to the Grand Ole Opry stage, why she crowdfunded her own EP, and why Sundays are non-negotiable.

Episode 20 with Tommie John. He calls it the affliction. From fixing BB King's email backstage to running his own Tuesday night jam, why there's no shortcut for experience, and why a rising tide lifts all ships.

Plus your challenges for August: get your boots on the ground, practice patience on purpose, and keep the faith no matter what tries to talk you out of it.

  • Episode 20: The Affliction, the Grind, and the Rising Tide with Tommie John (Full Broadcast)

Some people call it the gift. Tommie John calls it the affliction. He has to make music. He has to collaborate. It is just what he is meant to do. And for over thirty years that affliction has taken him from babysitting BB King's grandson at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival to touring the entire eastern seaboard to sitting on a dock on a lake in East Tennessee talking about why a rising tide lifts all ships.

In Episode 20 of Creative Evolution, host Josi J sits down with Tommie John, Knoxville Tennessee based guitarist, bandleader, sideman, session player, sound engineer, actor, music mentor, and community builder.
