  • Creative Guts Turns 4!

Creative Guts is four years old! In this episode, Laura and Sarah reflect on the highlights of the podcast, programming the nonprofit has produced in the last year, and what is on the horizon for Creative Guts.

Creative Guts is taking a summer break, but we’ll be back with new interviews in September! In the meantime, you can catch up on any episodes you’ve missed or listen again to your favorites wherever you listen to podcasts. • Russ Grazier

In today’s episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman are joined by Russ Grazier, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center! The mission of PMAC is to build community through the arts by providing all people with the opportunity to achieve their full creative potential, regardless of their age, ability, or economic status.

Russ was raised in Portsmouth and returned to be near family. When he and his wife opened PMAC in 2002, he wanted to create a community — not just a place where folks took lessons. In this episode, we talk about the value of Portsmouth’s creative spaces, the impact of the pandemic, and why housing is critical to the creative economy. Russ leaves listeners with some pretty awesome calls to action: consume art, join a Board of Directors, make a donation, and remember it’s STEAM, not STEM!

Find out more about the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center online at www.pmaconline.org. PMAC is on Facebook at www.facebook.com/portsmouthmusicandartscenter and Instagram at www.instagram.com/pmacportsmouth.

  • Positive Street Art: Manuel “Phelany” Ramirez

In part two of Creative Guts’ interview with the team behind Positive Street Art, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman talk with Manuel “Phelany” Ramirez, lead artist and co-founder of Positive Street Art! You probably know Phelany for his murals — he’s had a lot of practice with a can of spray paint! We talk about spray paint as a medium (it’s hard!) and the stigma around “street art”. In this episode, we’ll also talk about murals (duh), including the biggest mural, the weirdest wall, and how Phelany went from Phelan Place Bronx, New York City to painting a moose in Lancaster, New Hampshire.

  • Positive Street Art: Cecilia Ulibarri

In this two-part episode, Creative Guts’ co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman interview the team behind Positive Street Art! In part one, we talk with Cecilia Ulibarri, executive director, co-founder, and community leader! Positive Street Art was born out of a series of serendipitous events (including an amazing meet-cute) and Cecilia’s desire to make her children proud. Cecilia was an artist in search of community and she did more than find one — she made one.

In this episode, you’ll hear the entire story of how Positive Street Art came to be and how it has grown over the past 11 years! As a bonus, Cecilia is the first makeup artist featured on Creative Guts and we dig into that a bit, too.

Find Positive Street Art online at www.positivestreetart.org, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/positivestreetart, and on Instagram at www.instagram.com/positivestreetart.
