In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman sit down with Kelly Stück of Stück in the Studio! Kelly creates hand-drawn pet portraits in pen and colored pencil that will amaze you. We find out why animals are easier to capture than humans for Kelly, as well as the process of her pet portraits, which includes learning a pet’s personality in order to capture their essence properly.
In this episode, you’ll hear what pets are the most challenging, what’s the most unusual pet she’s been asked to draw, and how she wants to mix it up in the future with different textures like scales and horns! Kelly shares her journey as an artist, the challenges of pricing, and dealing with imposter syndrome when teaching.

In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman sit down with writer, former private investigator, podcaster, and certified cat detective, Lara Bricker! If you’re local, you might already know Lara’s name from the Exeter Life column she writes for Seacoast Media Group (she’s written about Art Up Front Street several times), but Lara is the author of the Piper Green Exeter mystery series and one of four hosts of the Crime Writers On podcast!
According to reviews for her latest book, “Dead on a Deadline”, Lara knows where all the bodies are buried in Exeter (and we believe it). In this episode, we cover local lore — tunnels, caves, aliens, you name it; Lara’s process as her books take shape; and cats, of course. There is a lot of talk about cats.

Keep an eye on your mailbox, because you’ll be getting a tiny piece of original art from a stranger soon! Listen for more details or head over to our website or find us on Facebook or Instagram where our handle is @CreativeGutsPodcast.
In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman sit down with artist Eric Katzman! If you’ve seen Eric’s art, you know it is abstract with a lot of color. The process of creating is meditative for Eric — he’s responding to what he sees in the moment and processing his life experiences. Originally from Kansas, Eric comes from a creative family and recalls spending time as a kid in a printmaking studio! Having taken a windy path through his careers as an artist and a dentist, Eric and his wife, Julie, opened Katzman Contemporary Projects in Dover, NH with the goal of lifting up New England artists.

In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman talk with Jennifer Moore, a.ka. JAM, the sustainable fashion hero behind Recover Girl and the founder of PortSwap and Project Upcycle!
Jennifer has always had an appreciation for authentic things made well and values fashion for what we communicate to the world through our clothing.
Despite the incredible upcycling JAM shares on her blog and on social media, she describes herself as a “hack” with a sewing machine. Jennifer has had the opportunity to teach and has found she’s learned a lot about how clothes are constructed by teaching and watching her students take clothes apart.
