  • Matt Wyatt

In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman chat with artist-turned-arts-advocate, Matt Wyatt. As an artist; Associate Producer and Publicist at the Rochester Opera House and Rochester Performance and Arts Center; and co-founder of the Rochester Museum of Fine Art, Matt wears too many hats to fit into one episode! The stubborn Capricorn and rowdy comedian tells the story of the 180-degree turn he took from a kid who didn’t know being an artist was a real career to receiving an award at Carnegie Hall in New York City, thanks to the encouragement of one Spaulding High School teacher. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry as Matt shares the story about that one time he met Gilbert Gottfried and why he feels so strongly about ensuring the arts are accessible to everyone. This episode was not sponsored by Apple… but it should have been.

  • Nancy Pearson

In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman chat with Portsmouth City Councilor and advocate for the arts, Nancy Pearson! Only in Portsmouth can someone run for local office on an arts campaign and win — and that’s exactly what Nancy did. During her time in office, Nancy championed the City’s “percent for art” ordinance, ensuring public art would be part of every new municipally-owned development. Nancy’s passion for the Foundry Place public art projects is palpable, even in podcast format.

Get to know Nancy Pearson on Facebook (www.facebook.com/nancypearsoncitycouncil) and, please, next time you’re in Portsmouth, park at the Foundry Place parking garage and check it out!

  • Beth Wittenberg

Get to know contemporary artist Beth Wittenberg in episode 11 of Creative Guts. In this episode, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman chat with Beth about how a significant weight loss prompted Beth to use her body as a canvas; how religion, politics, and the environment interact with her art; and why she doesn’t listen to music when she creates. Beth gushes about the art scene in her hometown of Rochester and challenges fellow artists to focus on the process over the product. Beth’s openness and compassion make this the most moving interview yet. It is also the longest, but don’t worry – it’s worth every minute.
