  • How do we deal with Grief??

Welcome to another episode of Creative Habits Podcast

Grief is a complex and multifaceted experience that is typically associated with the loss of a loved one, but can also arise from other types of significant loss such as divorce, job loss, or a major health diagnosis. From a scientific perspective, grief is thought to involve a complex interplay of biological, cognitive, emotional, and social factors

Grief is a natural response to loss, typically experienced when someone loses a loved one or something significant to them. It is a complex emotional response that can be felt in different ways, such as sadness, anger, shock, disbelief, guilt, and loneliness.

The causes of grief can vary, including death, divorce, job loss, or a significant life change. It is an essential part of the healing process, and everyone experiences it differently. It is a necessary experience that allows individuals to process and come to terms with their loss, adjust to life without their loved one or significant event, and move forward.

how has grief showed up for you? What was the feeling you experienced with your first loss?

(explain and explain example and have Handi explain hers)

Mourning, grief, and loss affect people in different ways, depending on factors such as their personality, culture, age, and prior experiences with loss. Some common reactions to grief and loss may include:

    - Physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and changes in appetite or sleep patterns

    - Emotional reactions such as sadness, anxiety, anger, or numbness

    - Behavioral changes such as withdrawal from social activities, increased alcohol or drug use, or difficulty concentrating

    - Spiritual or existential questions about the meaning and purpose of life and death.

People may experience these reactions for different lengths of time, depending on the severity of the loss and their support systems. Some people may benefit from professional counseling or support groups to help them cope with their mourning and grief.

Grief can inspire creativity by triggering a range of intense emotions that can be channeled into various creative outlets. For example, someone who is grieving may channel their pain into writing, painting, or music. Additionally, the process of creating art can provide a sense of purpose and help individuals navigate their grief by providing a healthy outlet for processing complex emotions.

Grief can also lead to greater empathy, which can be showcased through creative works that connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Ultimately, the process of creating can provide a space for healing and allow individuals to transform their pain into something beautiful and meaningful.

here are some general tips on how a person can process grief:

    1. Allow yourself to feel the pain: One of the most crucial things in the initial stages of grief is to allow yourself to experience the emotions that come with it, such as sadness, anger, guilt, or even numbness.

    2. Talk to someone: It's important to share your feelings with someone you trust, like a friend, family member, or therapist. Talking about your emotions can help you to process them.

    3. Take care of yourself: During this time, it's important to make sure you're taking care of yourself by eating healthy, exercising, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep.

    4. Seek professional help: If you're struggling to cope with your grief, it may be helpful to seek professional help from a therapist or counselor.

    5. Remember the good times: Although the loss may be overwhelming, try to remember the happy memories you shared with your loved one. This can help ease the pain and bring comfort.

  • Egregores

Once, in a far-off land, there lived a group of villagers who were tired of living in isolation from the rest of the world. They wanted to achieve greatness and be known for their exceptional qualities. One fateful day, a wise man in the village visited them and offered a solution to their problem. He told them about the concept of Egregores.

"Egregores are entities formed by the collective energy of a group of individuals," the wise man said. "They can be positive or negative, but they always hold the power of the group that created them."

Excited and intrigued, the villagers listened intently as the wise man explained more about Egregores. He told them how to create an Egregore, how they could use it to their advantage, and what the consequences could be if they didn't use it wisely.

Seeing the opportunity to change their lives, the villagers decided to create their own Egregore. They gathered together and focused all their energy, thoughts, and beliefs on this entity they were creating. They named it 'The Great One' and assigned it certain qualities they admired.

As time passed, the entity grew stronger, taking on a life of its own. 'The Great One' became the village's guiding force, and they used its power to achieve their goals. It provided them with the courage to fight their enemies, the strength to rebuild their homes, and the knowledge to improve their lives.

However, the villagers soon discovered that Egregores, like any other entity, required constant attention to stay powerful. They had to work together to maintain its strength, or it would cease to function correctly.

The villagers, realizing their mistake, began to neglect 'The Great One.' They became overconfident and began taking its power for granted. They thought they could stop working together and that it would still be there for them.

As a result, 'The Great One' began to weaken, and the village lost its vitality. It wasn't until much later that they realized their mistake. They started working together once again and reinvigorated 'The Great One.'

From that day forward, the villagers recognized the power of an Egregore and worked together to create more positive entities to guide and protect them. They learned to respect and cherish these entities and never took them for granted again.

  • The Recession

Host 1: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Creative Habits. Today, we're going to be talking about something that might not be so creative, but it's definitely something that we all need to be aware of. We're talking about the 2023 recession.

Host 2: Yes, Host 1, unfortunately, there is a high probability of a recession in the year 2023, and this could impact a lot of businesses and individuals. The last time we experienced a recession was back in 2008, and we all remember the crushing effects it had on our economy.

Host 1: Exactly, and unfortunately, there are a lot of signs pointing towards another recession in the near future. Experts have been predicting it for a while now, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated that timeline.

Host 2: That's right, Host 1. The pandemic has caused a great deal of stress on businesses and individuals alike. Companies have had to close their doors, and people have lost their jobs. Many businesses have been struggling to survive, and that is something that definitely points towards a potential recession.

Host 1: So, when is this recession scheduled to happen?

Host 2: Well, it’s crucial to note that no one can predict the precise timing of a recession, but many experts believe that it could be sometime in 2023. Although, it could happen before or after that time period.

Host 1: So, it’s essential to understand the impacts of this recession on businesses and individuals. Host 2, can you tell us about the effects of a recession?

Host 2: Absolutely, Host 1. A recession can lead to significant layoffs, increased poverty rates, and financial instability. Many individuals may lose their jobs, and it can be challenging to find a new one, which ultimately trickles down to businesses suffering. Consumers may need to tighten up on their expenses and spend less, resulting in companies not earning as much.

Host 1: That's a great point, Host 2, and it's something that we all need to be aware of. But what can people and businesses do to survive the recession?

Host 2: One key thing is to prepare your emergency fund if you don’t have one. Having enough savings to cover at least 6 months of expenses can cushion the blow of a potential job loss. It's also important to manage your credit score, pay off your loans, and evaluate your spending to minimize extra, well, unnecessary expenses.

Host 1: Those are all great tips. Additionally, in business, it’s about preparing and valuing flexibility. You should hone your skills and those of your employees, diversify your income streams where possible, and reduce your expenses as much as possible.

Host 2: Exactly. You can also get creative with revenue streams, such as partnering with other businesses or creating online courses to supplement income or pivot towards a different business model.

Host 1: All these are practical steps to take to prepare for an economic downturn. However, it is important to remain hopeful, and we can always come out of it stronger and better than before.

Host 2: Precisely, Host 1. It is critical to have a positive mindset and approach the situation with the right attitude. While the recession is inevitable, how you respond to it is crucial to your outcome.

Host 1: Well, listeners, we hope this discussion has been beneficial. Please, share with us any creative ways you

  • Culture Shock

    Culture Shock

Welcome to Creative Habits, the podcast where we explore the habits and practices of creatives and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds. In today's episode, we discuss our experiences and understanding of our unique cultural makeup and identify the things that help us move forward as black couples with slight cultural differences that often intersect but at moments clash.

We bring this topic up to spark conversation based on what we’ve researched, experienced, and witnessed.

Some say incorporating traditional African practices and values can help African Americans in the search for cultural identity. They feel that some members of the African American community have lost touch with their African roots and that by embracing African culture, they can better connect to their ancestry and history. Supporters of this view contend that African culture values community, family, and respect for elders, all of which could help address some of the issues facing African American communities such as high rates of poverty, substance abuse, and crime.

On the other hand, supporters of African American culture argue that African Americans have developed their own distinct cultural identity over the course of centuries that should be celebrated and celebrated. They contend that African American culture is a unique blend of African, European, and American influences that represents the creativity and resilience of the community. African American culture has produced remarkable contributions in the fields of music, literature, sports, and other areas of creativity, and has come to define American culture as a whole.

However, it is important to recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to this debate. The history of African Americans in the United States has produced unique challenges and opportunities that have shaped and defined an African American culture distinct from African culture. Also, it is important to note that African American culture has been open to adopting aspects of African culture as well as incorporating other cultures such as Caribbean, Latinx, or Asian cultures, making it a diverse, adaptive, and dynamic culture.

Together, we share our perspectives on African vs African American culture, highlighting the differences and similarities in backgrounds, misunderstandings that have helped us grow closer as a couple, and how stereotypes have affected the relationship between both communities and try to find a solution to how we can continue j bridging the gap between understanding of Africans and African Americans.

In Zimbabwe, our cultures and traditions date back centuries and are still very prevalent in our daily lives but coming here, some people can’t trace their lineage as far as I can and other African-born or 1st second or third-generation children of African immigrants can.

However, there are some similarities in terms of values, such as respect for family, community, and elders between my culture and yours.

Although is not acknowledged we both speak English and have our own language. There are words native to the black DMV experience that is not understood by the general non-African American.

Also, African Americans have a history of fighting for civil rights and equal treatment in a similar way to that of Zimbabweans did during apartheid however, post-independence, Zimbabwe isn’t fighting for racism but African Americans still are.

Conclusion: while the debate between African American culture and African culture is complex, both have valuable contributions to make toward the identity of black people worldwide. It is imperative to acknowledge and celebrate the richness and diversity of these distinct cultures while embracing commonalities that unite them. Ultimately, the discussion should not focus on a false dichotomy between the two cultures but rather on how their distinctness and commonalities can be leveraged for healing, reconciliation, and empowerment

  • Self-Esteem

Hello and welcome to this episode of our podcast, where we will be discussing the topic of self-esteem. This is an important topic that affects us all, whether positively or negatively. In this episode, we will explore the benefits of having high self-esteem, as well as the dangers of having low self-esteem. We will also discuss some practical tips on how to improve our self-esteem. So, let's dive in!

Firstly, let's talk about the positives of having high self-esteem. When we have high self-esteem, we feel more confident about ourselves and our abilities. We are more likely to take on new challenges and take risks. We believe in ourselves and our potential to achieve our goals. We also tend to have better relationships, as we are more assertive and able to communicate our thoughts and feelings effectively. High self-esteem can also lead to better mental health, as we are less likely to experience anxiety or depression.

On the other hand, low self-esteem can have several negative effects. When we have low self-esteem, we may doubt ourselves and our abilities. We may feel inferior to others and struggle with feelings of shame or guilt. This can lead to social anxiety and poor relationships. Low self-esteem can also lead to poor mental health, such as depression or anxiety.

Sure, let's dive a bit deeper into the topic of self-esteem. Self-esteem refers to the overall opinion we have of ourselves, including our sense of self-worth and value. It is shaped by our experiences, relationships, and the messages we receive from others and ourselves.

One of the key factors influencing our self-esteem is our upbringing. Children who grow up in supportive and nurturing environments are more likely to develop high self-esteem. On the other hand, children who experience neglect or abuse may develop low self-esteem. However, it's important to note that our self-esteem is not set in stone and can change over time.

There are two types of self-esteem: explicit and implicit. Explicit self-esteem refers to our conscious beliefs and feelings about ourselves. This includes things like our self-talk, self-perceptions, and self-evaluations. Implicit self-esteem, on the other hand, refers to our unconscious beliefs and feelings about ourselves. This can be influenced by our past experiences and may be more difficult to change.

It's also important to note that self-esteem is not the same as narcissism or arrogance. People with high self-esteem are not necessarily egotistical or self-centered. In fact, they are often more empathetic and understanding of others, as they are secure in their own worth and value.

Low self-esteem can lead to a range of negative behaviors and emotions, such as self-doubt, anxiety, depression, and even substance abuse. It can also affect our relationships, as we may struggle to communicate effectively or set healthy boundaries.

Improving our self-esteem takes time and effort, but it is possible. Some strategies include:

    - Practicing self-compassion and self-care

    - Challenging negative self-talk and replacing it with positive affirmations

    - Surrounding ourselves with supportive and positive people

    - Setting achievable goals for ourselves and celebrating our successes

    - Seeking therapy or counseling if needed

So, how can we improve our self-esteem? One way is to focus on our strengths and accomplishments. Celebrating our successes, no matter how small can help boost our confidence and self-worth. Another way is to practice self-care and engage in activities that make us feel good about ourselves. This can include exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. We can also work on changing our negative self-talk and replacing it with positive affirmations.
