The reason they are so important is two-fold- first is it gives your audience access to quality content you don't offer without engaging with you at the next level- they either give you their email or join a group or something so you can connect with them versus them just browsing your site or social media. So you can share more great info, and help them in a more meaningful way.

The second reason lead magnets or freebies are so important is because it lets your audience see how you can help them with your content. And it let's you understand which premium content is resonating with folks- because the content that does may be content you can turn into a product offering and sell by expanding on the freebie.
