Do you ever wish your side hustle was your full-time gig?
Do you want to know how to make products?
Are you interested in teaching workshops?
Are you looking for other streams of revenue?
    Episode 280. Aired Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
This week I am excited to introduce you to Nathalie Kalbach, a mixed-media artist illustrator, creator of Creative JumpStart, author, writer, and entrepreneur. Nathalie has taught workshops all over the world, and creates products for the craft industry.
I first heard of Nathalie because of a product I bought that she is the mastermind behind, called Creative JumpStart. It is a video series during the month of January where she coordinates artists, products, and a theme for the ENTIRE month. It serves as a creative inspiration and for me has showed me new artists and new processes of making art. I have purchased it every year since them and LOVED every minute of January because of it. Nathalie started off her career as a paralegal.
Yes, that's right, you did not mis-read, yes a paralegal at a law firm. Nathalie and I will talk about why she chose that path and how she left that career, trusted her gut and pursued her passion of art. She is a successful entrepreneur because she has been able to diversify her income streams and never have to stop creating. She regularly takes on different challenges and that is just one of the things that inspires me about Nathalie.

  • Overcoming Debilitating Self-Talk with Alicja Colon 120518
Does your inner voice regularly berate you? Do you have a hard time turning that monster inside your head off? Do you say things to yourself that you would never say to a friend?
This week we are going to be talking to my friend Alicja Colon, who is a designer turned photographer and illustrator. She is a mom of three and a wife. Her faith is a critical part of her life and her freelance business. She worked for many years with Focus Lab in Savannah and in September of this year went out on her own.
This week I am excited to introduce you to Alicja Colon, a paper artist illustrator, designer, and photographer. Alicja has taught workshops, given talks at conferences. She also has a podcast called Manual Focus. On top of all that she is a wife and mom of three, and in September she quit her full time gig to go out on her own. Talk about wearing a lot of hats! Alicja will tell you her biggest struggle has been her negative self-talk.
This episode will dig into how she has been able to wrangle the inner-voice monster and turn it into a cheerleader instead of a beast that lords over her feelings and thoughts.

  • Rapid Recharge // Thankful
    Episode 277. Aired Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
First off I want to tell you how thankful I am for you. Thankful you are reading this, thankful you take time to spend with me listening to the show each week.
I want to tell you about the Change Cycle that Martha Beck talks about in her book, Finding Your Own North Star. I started this book when Oprah had a daily daytime talk show. HA HA. Talk about a slow reader.
In January I started my sabbatical, but it did not start off in the way I had thought. I was really sick and unable to do any work for the first 3 weeks. Seeing the good in this situation was difficult, but I definitely found it.
I finished the book two weeks ago. I also read, Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic in the month of October. This was another one that revolutionized the way I was thinking.
This week I am excited to share what I have been learning with you. It is crazy and fun and I feel like it will be more real when I get to share it with you.
The taking action step is hard, the dreaming step is hard sometimes too for me. We will talk about these quadrants and how these four steps have become clearer to me in the last few weeks.
I am stoked to tell you about some conversations I have had, some things I have read, and things I have experienced that might also impact your work, your creativity, and your life.

  • Mastering Client Buy-In with Bill Gardner
Have you ever struggled with getting your client to go with the bold move, or try something different that is edgy or makes them uncomfortable? Have you ever wondered how other designers have been able to do this again and again? What role does personality play in your ability to obtain and keep clients? How much trust do you have to build with a client before they let feel comfortable with the visual direction you are taking their company?
    Episode 273. Aired Wednesday, October 31, 2018.
This week I am pumped to interview the founder of Gardner Design and the Creator of Logo Lounge, Bill Gardner. Bill has been able to build trust with his clients and through his knowledge of the industry has been able to produce work that is fun and is sometimes outside of the client's comfort zone again and again.
This week we will touch on some of the strengths that Bill possesses which have acted like superpowers throughout the years.
Bill is an excellent speaker, he is funny, smart, creative, authentic, and warm. He is able to make you feel super special when you are talking to him one-on-one. It got me wondering if these are some of the reasons that he is able to get clients to trust him.
How much does personality play in his ability to obtain and retain clients? He has an awesome personality by the way.
Have you ever wondered about your soft skills?
Do you think that you might need to improve them or some of them?
This episode will dig into how much Bill's soft skills and personality play a part in knowing where the client is having reservation and how to meet them where they are and assure them of their safety.

  • Finding Time & Finding Freelance with Kevin Greene
Working freelance into your 40 hour work week. Finding time to freelance with a full time job. Making connections with people in the industry. Being known for something. Being known for being dependable and delivering quality work, quickly. Easy to work with
Do you have a full time job, want to freelance, but aren't sure how to do both? Do you wonder how you can possibly meet clients AND be at work at the same time? Right you can't. But find out how my guest this week is able to freelance and hold down an art director position full time.
    .
Do you struggle with finding Time to unwind and destress?
    .
This week I am so stoked to finally interview my friend, Kevin Greene. We have an unusual meeting story that we will share with you. Which really explains why I love Kevin so much. He is friendly, dependable, funny, a great conversationalist, great with people, AND SUPER TALENTED as a designer and illustrator.
    .
This week we will touch on some of reasons why Kevin is able to juggle so much and how he recharges.
    .
Kevin is not only an awesome art director and designer he also is on the board of the United Design Guild as the Community Leader. Because Kevin is all about community and bringing people together. He has always been able to laugh at himself and doesn't take himself too seriously. He is willing to grow and is full of ideas for side projects but short on time for them. He recently started a new podcast, Fireside Podcast, with his good buddy Mike Sulick.
    .
How much does personality play in his ability to obtain freelance clients? I will let you be the judge. I think Kevin's personality and his ability to embrace failure and laugh at himself has a lot to do with Kevin's success both at work and while freelancing.
    .
This episode will dig into how to manage your time and your energy. Also developing relationships that get you freelance work.
