  • Vol. 2 Ep. 19 Crytsal Shawanda
There’s a tendency these days to try to pigeonhole any artist that attempts to breach the boundaries. Chalk it up to the restrictions of radio playlists or the media’s attempt to strictly define musicians by the music it believes artists ought to be making, creative instincts be damned.
Nevertheless Crystal Shawanda opted to defy those demands and chart her own path forward. Initially signed to RCA in 2007, she hit her stride as a country singer and songwriter when she scored a top 20 hit with her song “You Can Let Go” and subsequently tallied sales of over 50,000 copies of her debut album Dawn of a New Day and subsequently debuted in the Billboard Top 20. Nevertheless, she began to realize that the blues had captured her muse, and with that, she left the label, shifted her stance and began recording albums that reflected her love of blues and her natural affinity for that sound.
As she once told an interviewer, “The whole time I was singing Patsy Cline on stage, I was singing Etta James at home.”
Her new album Church House Blues reflects that dedication and devotion and finds her co-writing seven of the ten songs on the album. Produced by her husband, collaborator and cowriter Dewayne Strobel, it not only marks her fourth blues effort to date, but one of her most demonstrative as well. That’s evident at the outset, from the fiery delivery of the title track, the riveting drive of “New Orleans Is Sinking,” and the assertive strains of “Rather Be Alone,” to the quiet, contemplative desire and despair that scorches “Evil Memory,” the radio-ready hooks illuminated in “Hey Love,” and the emotive strains instilled in the bittersweet ballads “When It Comes To Love” and “Bigger Than the Blues.” At the center of it all is Crystal’s evocative vocals, a powerful, provocative force of nature that elevates each encounter and sends the album’s entries soaring towards the stratosphere.

  • Shows From The 90's Ep. 3 Mummies Alive
Originally, Mummies Alive was geared towards an older audience, but during production it became predominantly a children's show. The series ran for one season of 42 episodes; the last two episodes link together to end the show, as it appears episodes 38–40 were the finale of the first season.
Eric and Julia Lewald, were writers and producers for Mummies Alive!
Mummies Alive plot elements, including a group of warriors from the past that awaken in the present to fight a wealthy, immortality-obsessed enemy; their initial difficulties in adapting to the modern world; the use of mythological figures in numerous episodes; and a recurring femme fatale antagonist.
The show lasted for one season, but made an impact in the 1990's as a show that had to be watched.

  • Shows Of The 90 Ep. 2 Xmen The Animated Series
In 1991, Margaret Loesch became head of Fox Children's Network and brought in Eric Lewald and others to work on a new show around the Marvel Comic Book Series “The UnCanny X-men”
Having championed the Pryde of the X-Men pilot in 1989, Leosch was quick to set up an order for 13 episodes of X-Men.
Saban Entertainment was contracted to produce the show and hired a small studio Graz Entertainment to produce the episodes as it did not have sufficient staff at the time to handle production in house. Graz employed the creative staff, wrote and designed each episode, and drew the storyboards. The voice work was done using Canadian studios and South Korean studio AKOM was hired to animate the episodes.
X-Men was originally to premiere over the Labor Day weekend in September; due to production delays, it was pushed to the end of October.
The "Night of the Sentinels" two-part episode originally aired as a "sneak preview" on October 31.
Running for 5 season, Eric Lewald and Julia Lewald were instrumental in bringing the stories of our favourite mutant team to the small screen in one of the most beloved adaptation of X-men ever.
X-Men: The Animated Series was an important part of millions of people’s lives for nearly 25 years. Eric and Julia were lucky enough to have been involved in its creation and production. Dozens of people were thrown together in this unlikely challenge.
Eric wrote an amazing behind the scene book on the show. You can purchase Previously on X-men: The Making of an Animated Series here
Eric and Julia's New Book X-Men:The Art and Making of the Animated Series is now available on Amazon and Abramsbook

  • Vol. 2 Ep. 18 Tom Jackson, OC
There are entertainment legends, and then there is Tom Jackson, a triple-threat actor, musician, and activist whose achievements in each discipline are downright head-spinning. His career is
unparalleled, not to mention wildly acclaimed, abundantly decorated, and almost ridiculously interesting. Heck, he could be a pub night trivia category all by himself.
You’ll never hear Tom begin or end any sentence “when I’m retired”. He thrives as a people whisperer, a thoughtful collaborator in all facets of his work, and a force for positivity. His stride matches his 6’5” frame.
2018 marked the release of The Essential Tom Jackson, a dazzling two-disc, 21-track
retrospective spotlighting his inimitable talent as a folk-pop singer/songwriter of the highest order and an artist intrinsically linked to the world around him, both the real and the ethereal.
Tom is understandably proud of all that. Yet it is his extensive charitable work — in particular,
helming the long-running Huron Carole Christmas concert tours for Canadian food banks plus multiple other initiatives — that is arguably his crowning achievement. The act of giving comes naturally and spreads easily with his indefatigable energy to be on the look-out for those in need.
During our Discussion we talk about the Huron Carole. Those wanting to learn more please reach out to [email protected] or visit www.huroncarole.ca

  • Vol 2. Ep. 17 Greg Rider
Greg Rider started his musical journey in Montreal, busking on street corners and playing the bar scene. Music had been an influence on Greg, but he never did anything to pursue it until his 20’s. In time, this was to change. As he built his confidence, it was time for Greg to take his next leap of faith. He accepted a job as a bartender in the Cayman Islands and spent his off time writing and performing at open mic opportunities. One day, he met someone who convinced him he should be in Nashville and not long after that, he made the move.

For one year, he had a full-time residency on Nashville Broadway’s top venues and was playing full-time at FGL House (Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean) with his band. Greg also played acoustic gigs around town and participated in weekly writing rounds at the most respected venues in Nashville. During his time in Nashville, Greg met William Gaboury, a Montreal based music producer who saw him perform at Whiskey Jam.
Greg Rider is now back in his hometown, Waterdown after touring across Canada, playing at over 75 schools and reaching over 30,000 high school students with his music and a message of hope and resiliency. After releasing the first 3 singles by his own, the artists reunite with William Gaboury in Montreal to record new music.
