This year many of us at Cross Church are making a commitment to read through the Bible in 2018. Why is this important? First of all, because we are told to! “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” The Word of God is a powerful weapon and tool. The book of Hebrews tells us “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." The Word of God helps us know the difference between God’s will and our own will. The Word of God teaches us and exposes our sin. This year, we’re looking for a personal revival!

The book of Psalms is filled with a torrent of expression. Its verses: praise God for life, wonder at His creation, cry out for justice, shed tears in loneliness, marvel at His mercy, thank Him for His covenant with Israel, petition Him with heartfelt prayer, call upon His salvation, and worship Him with words of admiration and hallowed fear. The poetry of Psalms changed the world, and at its core, the longest Psalm, 119, sings God’s praises for His Word. It nurtures the individual who desires to walk in His light and follow His commandments. It is medicine to the soul.

The life of David, and his reputation as a man after God’s own heart, shines out from his 176 meditations on who God is and the strength which is derived from making ones foundation built on the Word of God. Have you stepped into the light? Are you grounded in the Word? After all, it is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path! Your life depends on it!
