As we continue in our Cleaning series the focus now shifts to one of the most common experiences for humanity, the birth of a child. While a most exciting happening for a family, it is also a time of great concern for the well being of the mother and child. God, in His love for His people, has a plan to protect mother, child and the community.

The role of the priests was to help the people understand the difference between the pure and the impure, the holy and the unholy. The entire sacrificial system was based on the need to maintain purity and holiness. We eat to sustain our lives. Leviticus 11 gives us the unique dietary restrictions for the children of Israel.

The priestly ministry began with a powerful example of God's approval. Fire consumed the offering and the people shouted and fell on their faces. It was a powerful moment. But quickly the situation devolved. Two of Aaron's sons began to follow the dictates of their own hearts with dire consequences.

Our Life is Messy series, through the book of Ephesians, comes to a close this week. It has been an amazing journey as we have continually seen Jesus as Lord over the mess. We have seen who God is and how God works. We have seen how we are meant to live in light of God’s love and grace. Our series closes with an unsettling reality: that we are in a spiritual battle. Because there is a battle raging all around us, we need to be warriors in the midst of the mess. Although the battle rages, we are more than conquerors in Christ. Leviticus chapter 9 marks the official beginning of the priestly ministry. God had given extensive instructions on how He was to be worshiped. The priests were formally consecrated and cleansed. Now the ministry begins.
