Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Kristin from Hurtigruten Cruises for this week's cruise chat.  Kristin explained to us how the "Coastal Express" route started with Hurtigruten along the coast of Norway.

This is a neat story of them starting as a mail route, then transitioning to cargo and passengers!  

Hurtigruten goes SO far up to Northern Norway! Many cruise lines stop at the arctic circle, but not Hurtigruten!    

They go to the following ports: Bergen, Norway Floro, Norway Maloy, Norway Torvik, Norway Alesund, Norway Molde, Norway Kristiansund, Norway Trondheim, Norway Rovik, Norway Bronnoysund, Norway Sandnessjoen, Norway Nesa, Norway Ornes, Norway Bodo, Norway Stamsund, Norway Svolaer, Norway Trollfjord, Norway Lofoten, Norway Stokmarknes, Norway Risovhamr, Norway Vesterälen, Norway Finnsnes, Norway Tromso, Norway Lyngenfjord, Norway Oksford, Norway Hammerfest, Norway Havoysund, Norway Honningsvà, Norwayg Kjollefford, Norway Mehamn, Norway Berlevag, Norway Varda. Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Sandra from Celebrity Cruises for this week's cruise chat.  Sandra just returned from her trip to the Galapagos and she shared her personal experience on Celebrity's ship Flora.  Flora was built for the Galapagos and every part of her is designed to showcase this unexplored and diverse rugged area.  

Flora and fauna are something you need to see with your own eyes! 

While you are instructed to keep your distance from the animals, they do not keep away from you! They are not afraid of humans and enjoy coming up and sitting right beside you! Make sure you bring extra memory cards or an external drive to download the pictures from your camera/phone! You will achieve so many great pictures everyone will think you are a wildlife photographer when you share your images!    Sandra mentioned that one of her favourite excursions was Kayaking with the Sea Lions! She also enjoyed Glamping under the stars!

This is the first time that I have met with MSC, so we did a great brand overview so that you can learn about their cruise line together with me.

I really love that the atrium is so gorgeous and glittery and full of glamour. Even the stairs have Swarovski crystals in them!  

. 

MSC currently has 23 ships in the water and will launch one new ship every year until 2027.  This means that you can enjoy 17 brand-new ships by 2027!   

. 

Their brand new ship MSC Seascape is so well laid out, and there is a plethora of exciting activities to choose from for all ages to enjoy, making it perfect for a multi-generational family trip.

I found it interesting that Avalon does not refurbish their ships. They do not rebuild their ships. They buy new ships. So, you know you will stay on the best of the best!   

Avalon's staterooms are set up so the moment you awake, you are immersed in the area you visit. The bed is angled, so you wake up to the most beautiful views.   

.

Avalon Waterways is a part of the Globus family of brands. Globus is a land tour specialist, making their shared app fantastic! You don't need to be connected to a cell tower or wifi. Everything is pre-loaded and available offline. The app also can direct you back to the ship, so if you are lost, you can find your way back ~ stress free!  

. 

Some of the itineraries we talked about are The Blue Danube.  Starting in Deggendorf, you visit Linz, Mauthausen, Grein, Krems, Spitz, and Visegrad ending in Budapest.   

You can also visit Lyon, Tain L'Hermitage, Tournon, Viviers, Avignon, Arles and ending in Port Saint- Louis. You can also add Paris before your cruise.   

A brand new itinerary for 2023 is one called "Lower Danube" This itinerary starts in Zebrab and visits Osijek, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Golbac, Lepenski Vir, Donji Milanovac, Vidin, Belogradchik, Nikopol, Arbanassi, Veliko Tarnovo, Oltenita and ending in Bucharest. You can add Transylvania if you choose.   

We also discussed an itinerary that goes from Croatia to the Black Sea. New in 2023.  Also new in 2023 is "The Best of the Rhine."
