  • Accents - Episode 209

16 Dec 2014: 2014 is set to be a breakout year for Accents, an indie rock quintet from Albany, NY. Since releasing their critically acclaimed debut, Growth and Squalor, in 2012 on Deep Elm Records (Lights and Motion, Appleseed Cast), the group has had music featured in multiple hit MTV dramas, performed shows all over the Northeast, and filmed a crowd-funded music video for their single, Alright With Me. Most recently, they self-released a split EP with fellow New York indie-rockers The Racer this past December. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in the Fall of 2013, the group traveled to Telegraph Recording in Poughkeepsie, NY to record their sophomore full-length with Mike Kalajian (Moving Mountains, Wooly and the Mammoth, Ace Enders). They are gearing up to release that new album this Spring.

Accents began as a mere studio project between singer/songwriter TJ Foster and multi-instrumentalist/producer Benjamin Hemingway. The duo worked on tracks while living hundreds of miles apart, culminating in the collection that would become Growth and Squalor. Legendary indie label Deep Elm Records took notice and digitally released the groups debut, garnering praise from respected media outlets and blogs including Absolutepunk.net, who described the album as a gorgeous, atmospheric slice of indie-folk music... One of the best albums of [2012]. It became clear that this was something special, and the project quickly expanded to include now permanent members Lauren Alexander (vocals, cornet), Matthew Bent (bass, vocals), and Jordan Stewart (guitar). Although the forthcoming full-length continues to highlight Fosters knack for songwriting, it showcases a quintet expanding the familiar Accents sound to new heights with anthems equipped with lush harmonies, soaring guitars and a h

  • Last Daze - Episode 207

11 Nov 2014: Last Daze is a rock and roll band that was assembled in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, and forged in a non- disclosed recording studio, rumored to be in the vicinity of Echo Park, Los Angeles.

The band is fronted by songwriter Katy Cole, who uses her life experiences as well as the experiences of others to channel the unusual and beautiful sounds that make up the heart of Last Daze. Cole joined forces with guitarist, Chris Schempp in search for the raw, electric sound that comes out of his Gibson guitar. His soaring guitar lines take the band to a level known only as Planet Schempp.
Answering a craigslist ad from 120 miles away, Mick Changelo came to be an essential member of Last Daze. Michael (Mick) Changelo was hatched on another planet and sent here as an emissary with the expressed purpose of loving a woman named Sarah. As an aside, he happens to play low-toned stringed instruments fairly well.
Brian Zink is the newest addition to Last Daze, hailing from Colonie, NY. His drum kit has survived hellfire and brimstone, only to be unleashed on your ears and felt through your veins.
With all the pieces complete, the band flew to Los Angeles in March of 2014 to record their debut album, Symbols and Snares with producer, Shooter Jennings. The product that came out of that studio in LA defies genre boundaries. The songs speak from the heart, and take you on a journey that you will want to relive over and over again.

  • Bob Warren and Joy Mackenzie - Episode 204

30 Oct 2014: Bob Warren and Joy Mackenzie share a love for singing. Bob is from the mountains of New York; Joy, from the mountains of Northern California. The strength of their musical partnership rises from the diversity of their individual experience, and grows in the union of their voices.

Bobs music reflects a poetic artistry that is both articulate and evocative. With his roots in the folk troubadour tradition, Bobs writing is surprisingly diverse. From musicals to rock and everything in between, Bobs music shares his humor, wit, and heart. The songs address a wide range of topics: one, a portrait of The Battenkill (the river that flows through his town), another, an adrenaline rush of a song about his former noisy neighbors, yet another written for the AARP crowd. Social commentary about the peace movement, born again philosophy, and the ongoing debate following the shooting in Newtown, CT also play a role in Bobs writing. Then, there are the catchy, soulful tunes that just feel good like a summers day at the beach!
Music is a way of life for Joy MacKenzie. She sings whenever anyone will let her. A mountain girl from a small town, she keeps it real and believes that music is close to the heart of what makes us human.
Bob Warren and Joy Mackenzie perform as a duo and as part of the larger, Bob Warren Band. Their singing has placed them in front of appreciative audiences on various stages including live radio, theaters, clubs, and house concerts.
