Federal health officials recently overhauled the U.S. childhood vaccine recommendations, reducing the number of diseases for which routine shots are broadly recommended — dropping from 17 to 11. Instead of a one-size-fits-all schedule, many vaccines are now recommended only for high-risk children or left up to shared clinical decision-making between parents and doctors. The CDC says this aligns U.S. guidance with international peers, but pediatricians and medical groups are raising serious concerns about the lack of transparency, scientific review, and potential risks for kids.
