The Animorphs encounter the Mercora, a lovable, crablike people attempting to build a home on Earth, and immediately become conscripted into someone else's war.  

What does the introduction of the Mercora tell us about the series' stance on nonviolence? Is Cassie doomed to be hardened to violence and harming others over the course of this series? Is Tobias inevitably going to become an Alloran type, willing to sacrifice the well-being of the few for the needs of the many? Are the Mercora more or less huggable than the Taxxons?
