This episode wasn't in the plan. We weren't going to do it, and we weren't going to address the story, because the tragedy of Elisa Lam's death is exactly that, a tragedy. Elisa's story belongs to her and her family.
And then Netflix came along and, well, went full Netflix.
After twenty minutes of "Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel", we couldn't stand by as this unfocused conspiracy drivel ran amok for four hours.
So we're going to talk about the documentary: how it spectacularly and with great production value misses the point, perpetuates stereotypes of poverty, addiction, and mental illness, and ends up decisively, absolutely nowhere. Join us, won't you?
