Episode 20: Setting up a Chicken Brooder for success with Hafsa from Homestead Hafsa

This episode is a super fun one. I connected with Hafsa from Homestead Hafsa a few weeks ago and am so happy I found her. She has a similar path to homestead is the founder of Eggcited About Chickens which has education on how to raise chickens in the suburbs, the city or on a farm. Join us for fun conversation about raising baby chicks into egg laying hens.

I grew up in New Jersey, few minutes from Manhattan NYC. Now my husband and I live in rural Shenandoah Valley VA. I’ve been a business owner 13 years, owned traditional and online businesses in a variety of industries. The last 10 years I’ve been in marketing and am a Regional Vice President with an international service based direct sales company.

Homesteading has always been a passion since childhood. In college I worked on a farm caring for over 1,000 animals - chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, cows, horses. I always wanted to have a farm of my own and turn it into some kind of business. A few years ago when I lost my mom to stage 4 cancer it was a wake up call for me that life is short, we should do what makes us most happy and to live a healthier lifestyle. That’s when I made a decision to transition into homesteading full time. In early 2020 we completely stopped traveling (my husband and I used to travel all over the US on business hosting and speaking at seminars). The extra time from being home full time gave me the opportunity to create Homestead Hafsa later that the year.

During that time we lived 100% off grid for 2 years and recently moved to an existing farm with a few hundred chickens. Now in the last year+ I’ve built a completely new business from scratch and started with 0 followers on Instagram. I launched an ebook and course on raising chickens and work with the largest and most reputable brands in farming as a content creator and influencer teaching how to raise backyard chickens for beginners.
