Originally from Germany, she lived in Australia and the UK before.

In 2004 she decided to quit her IT job in London to move to Spain and start a sewing business - with nothing but a love for sewing and plenty of enthusiasm.

Eight years (and countless "demanding" Spanish clients) later she was burned out and started her own journey of self-discovery which ultimately lead her to become a coach.

She now helps other free spirits with a strong analytical mind and a big idea turn their passion into a business. She's the host of the Passion Business Podcast.

"Having lived out of Germany for so many years has made me realize that I'm very German."

Her tips on becoming more culturally competent are:

Travel as much as you can and ideally independent, so not in a group.

Learn languages; or at least a few words.

Hang around other people on a personal level if you can.

About This Week's Guest Richard Conrad

Richard Conrad grew up in Washington, D.C., studied engineering and economics at Vanderbilt University, earned a master's degree in Economics as a local student at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and later earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Richard worked for the last seventeen years for a large U.S. money management firm researching, analyzing, and investing in Chinese and Japanese equities.

Richard is fluent in Chinese and Japanese and continues to live in Asia with his family.

"Chinese have an Inclusive culture; Japanese have an Exclusive culture"

His tips on becoming more culturally competent are:

Give and allow time and space for silence. Allow the Japanese to express themselves.

Remember that the Japanese are "intuitive" thinkers; straightforward logic doesn't work.

Things or people are not "wrong". They are "different" in Japan. Using the word wrong can be perceived as too direct and impolite.
