  • Dave Wager: God Bless America? The Forgotten Responsibility of a Blessed Nation

NEW PODCAST: On this special solo edition of Stand Up For The Truth, Dave Wager asks a loaded question many of us don’t stop to think through: What are we really asking when we sing “God Bless America”? This isn’t just about waving flags or reciting patriotic songs. Dave unpacks the biblical reality that blessing always comes with responsibility. Drawing from Psalm 33:12—“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”—he challenges listeners to consider whether we’re seeking comfort or commissioning. Have we used our blessings to glorify God and serve others, or have we settled into comfort and forgotten the Giver?

From the roots of Irving Berlin’s famous song to the fiery furnace of Daniel 3, Dave walks us through what true loyalty looks like—loyalty to God first, even when national pride gets loud. Patriotism isn’t wrong, he says, as long as it doesn’t eclipse obedience to the Lord. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t start a rebellion, but they drew a clear line. The call is the same for us today: respect authority, pray for leaders, and live lives marked by godliness and dignity—but never bow to what contradicts God’s Word.

  • Julaine Appling: Life and Liberty – God’s Design

Mary welcomes back Julaine Appling for a look at the culture from several angles. One of the best culture warriors out there, Julaine’s faith and trust in Christ always shines through as she looks over the moral issues of the day in Wisconsin and across the fruited plain. Julaine helps us stay on top of the issues so that we can know how to vote and what issues take precedence in our worldview watch. Today we look at the March for Life that will take place in Madison, Wisconsin on June 14. The fight for life will not end in our lifetimes, but there are ways we can stand firm for biblical truth on this one. We take a look at a new resolution to revoke Wisconsin’s constitutional amendment on marriage. The author of the bill hails it as a reversal of previous discriminatory language that “fuels hate”. Of course anyone who affirms God’s one-man-one-woman plan for marriage knows this is progressive mumbo jumbo that discriminates against the truth. We discuss Wisconsin’s voucher plan changes and much more as we look at life, liberty and God’s revealed plan for how a moral society functions best.

  • Carl Kerby: Appreciation or Expectation; A Word View vs a World View

Mary welcomes back Carl Kerby, creationist and apologist at Reasons for Hope Ministry where equipping a new generation to boldly defend truth is the priority. Today we chat with Carl on two separate topics: “Appreciation or Expectation?”, and the one-letter difference between a “Word” view and a “World” view. What are the main things that separate the two approaches – Word and World (besides one lonely letter!) – for our understanding of life? Well, creation for one, which really does establish the ground work for all we believe. Is it chance or design? Other things that separate us from the world are how we value life, our moral base, our identity and our destiny. We also take a look at the difference between “appreciation” and “expectation”. One exists in the here-and-now; the other exists in the unknown future and can be a true relationship killer when we presume what we deserve. The opposite of appreciation is insensitivity, disrespect, callousness, and disapproval. If you have ever had a parent who was never satisfied, or a boss who took credit for everything, you know how it feels to be unappreciated, invisible, and devalued. What does the Bible say? All this and more from Carl Kerby, co-creator of “DeBunk’d” videos,  “Weapons of Mass Instruction”, “Fast Facts” and much more. Their YouTube presence can be found here.

  • Jeremy Lundgren: Preparing the Way, Unlocking Deeper Biblical Truths

In this podcast episode, host Dave Wager and guest Jeremy Lundgren explore the art and importance of studying the scriptures. They begin by reflecting on Malachi 3:1, discussing how a simple English reading of the Bible can be both accessible and profound. They emphasize that while many can understand the Bible at a basic level, deeper insights come from engaging with the text, reflecting on its context, and exploring various translations.

The conversation delves into the differences between Bible translations and paraphrases. Dave shares his experiences with different versions—from the New King James to the ESV and NIV—illustrating that each translation offers unique nuances. Jeremy explains how understanding the original languages and using study tools like Bible handbooks and concordances can help uncover richer meanings, such as the layered interpretation of the word “prepare” in scripture.

Ultimately, both speakers encourage listeners to read the Bible regularly and thoughtfully, regardless of the translation they choose. They highlight that the goal of Bible study isn’t just academic understanding, but forming a personal connection with God’s word—a connection that transforms lives, sharpens our spiritual discernment, and equips us to face life’s challenges with faith.

    Ecclesiastes 12:11-14

The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep. But, my child, let me give you some further advice: Be careful, for writing books is endless, and much study wears you out.

    2 Timothy 2:15-16

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior.

How does acknowledging and living out these differences bring glory to God? Holly has some fascinating insights into our God-given traits and physical characteristics that originate in the brain. In particular, we look at how we learn differently and to celebrate the differences, while the world tries its best to erase them. Thought provoking, mind altering topic!
