After a long, remarkable life, our dear Maine Coon, Romeo, crossed the rainbow bridge. He still had some magic left to share, though, after he passed. Cry along with me, and laugh, as I tell you about one fantastic, lovable cat.

***A special note***
Yesterday I picked up Cooper dog and Opal cat from the kennel after two days of care at Paradise Pet Lodge. The staff there has taken care of our beloved pets whenever we travel with such love and kindness, so they'd known Romeo his whole life. As I was picking up the pets, they hugged me and asked how our family was doing with the loss of Romeo. They, too, had mourned his passing. The entire staff eulogized him in a staff meeting the week he died. I cried as they shared what he'd meant to all of them. Romeo was the perfect name for that loving boy. He was unique and touched many lives. Thank you to every hand that nurtured, fed, cared for, petted, and loved him. Thank you for seeing the glorious wildness in his dazzling green eyes.

This is a true story that begins in 1931 and is still developing as we live and breathe. You will learn about a woman who served God and died too early. Her service and devotion to God and St. Joseph was almost eclipsed by her friend Father John J. Crowley, also known as the Padre of the Desert, a larger-than-life servant of the Catholic Church. Their stories are forever intertwined and with the help of special guest, Molly Hudson, we will share what happened to us after I mentioned Sister Irenita in Curious Cat Episode 14: Cemeteries. Woo. It's a doozy.

If you'd like to research their lives and fill in the gaps for yourself about what may have kept Sister Irenita discontent, haunting the St. Johns Cathedral and property for 91 years, please have a read.

This week we are talking about everyday magic, the rituals and superstitions that are so ingrained in the everyday they are nearly invisible! Let’s get into it!

As I put my socks on for this morning’s run, I realized I do this a certain way because of a superstition I hold. I put on both socks, then both shoes before taking a single step. Even if the fire alarm went off, I wouldn’t budge. I’m not sure where I picked up this superstition that walking with only one sock on will cause a death in the family, but I live it. There are a myriad of others I have woven into my life. I always stir my morning coffee clockwise so that I imbue the brew with good luck for the day to come. I have a horseshoe hanging in the entryway of my home, there are others, too. Maybe I’d have some shame about my beliefs, except it seems I’m in good company. 

According to a YouGov study conducted September 2019, 69% of Americans self-report being somewhat to very superstitious. An older Gallup poll from 1996 says that 25% of Americans acknowledge they were very or somewhat superstitious; up 18% from 1990. This, regardless of advances in science and technology! I wonder how high the number would be after 2020? One thing that’s clear is that YOUNGER people tend to be MORE superstitious than older folks.

I have a routine that I only just started a month or so ago. It’s called, “Morning Papers.” After the pets are fed, I sit with my coffee and do a quick two-minute meditation that gets me into Oneness with God and the Universe. I ask, “What do you need me to know or do today?” Then I listen. This particular morning I received, “Look up Azrael. Study and learn. L-O-V-E is the key. LISTEN! OBSERVE! VERIFY! ENACT! I misspelled Azrael, but an internet search for him turned up Archangel Azreal. 

He is known as the Angel of Death, but he encompasses quite a bit more than that!

As the Angel of Death, he accompanies people as they cross from the physical world to the spiritual world. Some have called him the Grim Reaper. But, he does NOT cause death. In fact, he has nothing to do with that part of our human experience. 

Azrael is the ferryman, the guide, and the protector. 

When the deceased is ready, Azrael oversees their life review with them.

A secret I was unaware of until now is that Azrael is available to do life reviews for us at any time! Put a bookmark on that thought. I promise, I’ll dive deeper into soon.

Imagine you’re snuggled into bed, glass of water by your side, book in hand, phone on vibrate. Something across the room catches your eye. Movement, fast, a blur. Then you make out a distinct human shaped shadow move past the far wall. Was it a person? But no one else is home. Could it have been your imagination? Was it a ghost? Chances are it was another encounter with a spreading phenomenon – apparitions that’ve come to be known as shadow people or shadow beings. Go on TikTok or Instagram and you’ll see what I mean about widespread! Why has the occurrence become so common as of late? Is it because experiencers are less stigmatized and ostracized so they are telling their stories more often? Could be. Or are these shadow beings somehow connected with the collective consciousness and the tumultuous times since March 2020 have been a perfect Petri dish to create many more shadow people? We will also dive into the strange link between shadow people and sleep paralysis!

In the episode I also tell you about the recent Jinn sighting I had at the grocery store. I kid you not.
