This week wraps up our director retrospective on Brian DePalma as we discuss his 1989 film Casualties of War, starring Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn.  This is the only film of his that we reviewed that wasn't written by DePalma so we'll see if that makes a difference.  We also briefly discuss the state of movie releases in the month of September before letting our Weekly Movie Recommendations out of the bag.

Episode 26 of the CutPrintFilm Podcast has us discussing Brian De Palma's 1981 masterpiece, "Blow Out" starring John Travolta.  This thriller was completely ignored by audiences when it came out but has since become somewhat of a revered film by cinephiles.  Tune in to see what Jeff, Dave and Chris thought of it!  Chris also gives the briefest of reviews to Sin City: A Dame to Kill For before we plow face first into our Weekly Movie Recommendations.

With The Expendables 3 opening at an embarrassing 4th place this weekend, we discuss why audiences may have decided to sit this one out.  This episode is part one of our three part Brian De Palma retrospective and we're reviewing his 1973 thriller, Sisters starring Margot Kidder and Jennifer Salt.  We will continue this Brian De Palma series next week with his 1981 film Blow Out.  After the break, we mourn the loss of actor and comedian Robin Williams by discussing his career highs and lows as well as what he meant to the world of cinema.  As always we close the show with our Weekly Movie Recommendations.

As part of our “Summer Series,” this week we’re exclusively discussing the film adaptations of Cormac McCarthy novels.  Starting with 2000’s All the Pretty Horses all the way up to the James Franco directed Child of God, which was released last week, we delve into what worked and what failed miserably when these novels were adapted for the screen.  We even tackle the 2013 film The Counsellor which was not a McCarthy novel but was written by him as a screenplay.  We then hypothetically cast McCarthy’s masterpiece Blood Meridian – a film that has never been made (and probably shouldn’t be attempted as such) and as always, we end the show with our Weekly Movie Recommendations.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opened this week to a record breaking box office total (for the month of August) of $94 million!  We discuss what made the film able to accomplish such a feat as well as what we liked and didn’t like about it.  We also discuss the low budget sci-fi film Coherence and why the less you know about it, the better.  Somehow the idea of filming a CutPrintFilm movie comes up and Jeff is cast as a Frankenstein monster who lifts weights.  Fortunately, we quickly move on to our weekly movie recommendations before things go too far off the rails.
