  • Episode 527: My Thoughts Monday #176- Jay DeMayo- Improving Through Improv
“There’s a reason people do things for as long as they have, and that is because they work.”

This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance. Vald’s constant drive to help coaches find better information to drive more educated directions is second to none. Check out this weeks Metric Minute and make sure to go check out all their great products at: www.valdperformance.com

I’ve spoken many times about how 75 Hard has helped me improve, but it has been really important to “keeping me in line” during the season. One of the daily tasks of this program are reading 10 pages a day, which has really helped me to keep me growing and expanding as a coach. In this week’s My Thoughts Monday I share some take aways from a book that Ali Kershner referenced on The Podcast. The book, Improve Wisdom, has a lot of great lessons that transfer over to coaching quite well. I highly recommend it.

  • Episode 525: Episode 275- Tim Caron- Tactics are for amateurs, logistics are for masters
“The real master the one that can master logistics, and not just talk about what to do in therapy and hypotheticals.”

This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. Exxentric is the world leader in fly wheel training technology providing multiple pieces to fit your budget and needs to better serve your athletes. North American customers looking for more info should contact Andreas at [email protected] or 503-739-1391. All others, or to learn more about the kBox, kPulley and flywheel training, please go to their website at: https://exxentric.com/.

I have the pleasure of sitting down with Tim Caron to discuss training in this week’s episode of The Podcast. After a run-down of how he got out to Cali and opened Allegiate we get into his education background and how two very different “mentors” have had an immense impacts on him professional development. Tim then runs down the rabbit hole of nutrition, how he’s brought information from different experts together to lead to better discussions and prescriptions for the athletes he has gotten to work with in a more holistic way. We then discuss the role of in person learning from the greats, and how limitations to reading a book and thinking that you have the answers is really holding us back from truly understanding what their methods are. We finish off talking about the work that they’re doing to help educate coaches. Make sure to check them out here for all the great content https://www.allegiategym.com and follow them on IG at @allegiategym and him @coachtimcaron and his show @performancehealthpodcast

  • Episode 524: My Thoughts Monday #175- Jay DeMayo- How the Mentor/Mentee Relationship Can Improve
“As powerful as the phrase, and as real as the phrase is, your network is your net worth, what you provide is even more important.”

“At the end of the you keep growing from your mentors, and you keep growing from your mentees because they’re the most important person to your career development, and they’re the most impactful person to how you can diversify your education?"

This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance. Vald’s constant drive to help coaches find better information to drive more educated directions is second to none. Check out this week’s Metric Minute and make sure to go check out all their great products at: www.valdperformance.com

All too often we look at our mentors as the person who is going to “get us the next job”. This has been a topic of discussion lately in the lovely world of strength coach twitter, and one that I think we are missing the forest for the trees with. We need to take a step back and look at what is the most important part of this process, and that is hiring the right person. But the question is, what makes that person right, or the position right? In this week’s My Thoughts Monday I share where I see that, and why I feel like that has been the driving factor behind our success and evolution as coaches and a staff.
