  • Outside The Rack #65- Jason Dierking
“It’s easy to talk about your beliefs, it’s easy to talk about faith, it’s easy to talk about your values but when you actually have to live it out then it becomes is it real or not?”

What’s up everybody and welcome the 65th episode of Outside The Rack brought to you by Kinetic Performance the makers of Gymaware. In this show we are going to try to dive a little deeper into the minds of the top practitioners in the world of sport performance to learn a bit more about who they actually are and how they got to where they are at today. Today we are joined by the University of Louisville’s Director of Sports Performance, Jason Dierking. Jason, thanks for being with us today.

Before we start, who is Jason Dierking?
Many things, to start with I’m a Christian and my faith is very important to me, a husband, a son, a brother. A while ago I would have said I’m a coach, but now I see that as what I do, not who I am.

    1) Describe a learning situation that brought about an epiphany in your career
Doing the Iron Man Triathlon and using it as a fund raiser for spinal cord injured people. Committing to something bigger than himself taught him how much a purpose can drive you.

    2) If you could ask one question and you know you would get the answer what would that be and why?
I don’t need to have all the answers, I trust my faith.

    3) What’s your escape?
Physically it’s yard work, but reading is the one thing that I’ve started doing more of on topics outside our profession.

Today I have the absolute pleasure to sit down and discuss the opportunity in front of him with Vincent Williams. After a run down of how he got up to URI we get right into where he sees the program going, and how the familiarity of the A10 within the G League lead to this decision. We then discuss the transition from the G League back to college, and what lessons he’s brought with him to help continue to drive improvements with his players. We then discuss the “flow” of players in the G League, how that impacts their psyche, and how this could impact how he handles his players at URI.
