  • Episode 262- Dr. Ken Clark- It’s Not Research or Coaching, it’s Both
“More complexity is made than necessary.”

This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. Exxentric is the world leader in fly wheel training technology providing multiple pieces to fit your budget and needs to better serve your athletes. North American customers looking for more info should contact Andreas at [email protected] or 503-739-1391. This week I have the absolute pleasure to sit down and discuss speed development with Dr. Ken Clark. After a quick rundown of how he got up to West Chester we get right into discussing speed. We discuss how it’s become more “en vogue” of late, and bridge being connected between research and training. Dr. Clark then shares with us how they bring the research to the track and how the answer to how to connect the practical with the research tends to be, keep it simple. This leads us right into the horizontal vs vertical forces when it comes to speed, and how at the end of the day the answer is some place in the middle. He then discusses top end speed, its role in training, and where it can be utilized in sports that don’t sprint or have time to hit Max V can still benefit from hitting high speeds in training. We finish off discussing the future of research, and how the next step is involving teams and higher-level athletes. Dr. Clark puts out some great info on twitter and Instagram at @kenclarkspeed and his website kenclarkspeed.com so make sure to check those out!

  • Outside The Rack #63- Aaron Duvall
“The more that I feel like I’ve learned the more I realize I’m clueless.”

What’s up everybody and welcome the 63rd episode of Outside The Rack brought to you by Kinetic Performance the makers of Gymaware. In this show we are going to try to dive a little deeper into the minds of the top practitioners in the world of sport performance to learn a bit more about who they actually are and how they got to where they are at today. Today we are joined by Mississippi State University’s Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, Aaron Duvall. Aaron, thanks for being with us today.

Before we start, who is Aaron Duvall?
Personally I am a below average weight lifter, and a pretty laid back guy.

    1) Describe a learning situation that brought about an epiphany in your career
The first one was summer working with a new team and communicating with the sport coaches to understand what’s going on. The second is with our internship program and utilizing different programs across campus within it.

    2) If you could ask one question and you know you would get the answer what would that be and why?
The first, progressional, is “what else are we missing that could really help us give our athletes the tools necessary to be the best they can be?”
The second, personally, is “what else is really out there?”

    3) What’s your escape?
My big one, yearly, is to go snow boarding.
