On this episode we talk to Conor Delanbanque, who rides for Good Guys Racing. Even though the team is based out of New York City, Conor and his wife now call Miami home.  We talk about cycling in these cities and how they differ, training for USA Crits while maintaining a full time job and how these ‘Good Guys’ are out to inspire diversity within the cycling community.

On this episode of Cycle Series we are talking about how to prevent injuries from riding your bike and what to do if you are starting to feel some pain. It kind of ties into our previous episode about getting a proper bike fit. But on this show, we sit down with Dr. Mario Valdes of Nonstop Physiotherapy + Recovery, who is a physical therapist out of Miami. He shares some tips with us to help keep you riding your bike.

Ruddy Cornielle of RC Cycling take us inside the North Miami Beach facility where he has brought new technology of bike fitting to South Florida. It’s called gebioMized and it uses pressure sensors to help dial in riders to their bikes. The days of trial and error are over and scientific analysis is the name of the game when it comes to bike fitting. This technology is being used by World Tour cyclists, but it’s being offered to amateur riders at a competitive rate for a bike fit.

Best Buddies Racing might be one of the newer cycling teams to the scene. But the team’s owner, Anthony Shriver, has every reason to believe this team has what it takes to win at the highest level of crit racing in America. In just a matter of months, the team was formed and collecting wins under its belt. Now, the team has their sights set on the USA Crits Series calendar where they will be racing against some of the best cyclists in the country. But the team’s main purpose is to promote the Best Buddies International mission, which is a non-profit dedicated to helping those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Shriver expects the team to use its platform to promote Best Buddies throughout American cities and internationally as well, while continuing to win races as the team evolves.

Relentless Racing Team is group of friends from Miami who were once CrossFit enthusiasts. But since the pandemic, they turned to cycling, which eventually became the Relentless team. The majority of them had no prior cycling experience. Even though they’re relatively new to the scene, they’re already showing how they’re giving back to the community and helping raise money for a five-year-old boy who was diagnosed with cancer.

South Florida native and Olympic hopeful, Mandy Marquardt, talks to Cycle Series about training to make the U.S. Olympic Track Cycling team for Tokyo 2020, which has been pushed back to July 2021 because of the pandemic. Mandy started riding on the velodrome at Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City, Florida at 10 years old. But at 16, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and was told by doctors she could not compete at a high level anymore. That didn’t stop Mandy. And now she is an advocate for Type 1 diabetes awareness and currently riding for Team Novo Nordisk, which is a team made up of athletes who all have Type 1 diabetes. These athletes are proving it’s not the end of the road for competitive athletes who are diagnosed with the disease. 

Joyto Hernandez is the founder of Aminorip Racing  in Miami. He gives an inside perspective of the business side of Aminorip, which is a health supplement. Hernandez shares  how the product was developed, which has almost become  synonymous with endurance sports.

Aminorip is not just a health supplement, but one of the premier racing teams in South Florida. The founder, Joyto Hernandez, shares how athletics led to the business, that branched out to a competitive cycling team based out of Miami, Florida. And for the first time, Aminorip is joining the USA Crits calendar this season to compete against the some of the strongest cycling teams in the country. Hernandez also shares what it takes to join this team of elite cyclists.

Maurice Hanks is the founder of Break the Cycle. It’s a cycling club in Miami that aims to expand the sport in the urban community and introduce kids of color to competitive cycling. Hanks talks about some of the challenges minority communities face and hopes through cycle, they can also help bridge the gap with police.

Valentina Chacin is the founder of Extra Sweet Racing Team in Miami, Florida. Her all women's team not only races bikes, but they promote awareness about Type 1 diabetes. It’s a cause close to Valentina because she was diagnosed with it about three years ago. Competing in cycling with Type 1 diabetes is a challenge, but it’s not impossible. And that’s what she wants people to know who might feel held back because of the disease. She’s out to prove they’re not.
