Now this was a fascinating interview! What's it like being a dad when you're serving a prison sentence? What impact does this have on your family and children?

I spoke to reformed criminal David Breakspear who spent many years in prison and young offenders' institutions.

David is a dad of three, a grandfather and the author of the Journey of a Reformed Man blog. David is also high profile campaigner for reform of the criminal justice system. We spoke about his background, what it's like to have kids when you are behind bars and the support (or rather lack of support) for inmates and families when someone is serving a sentence. 

Buckle up, this interview was a roller coaster ride!

I speak with Ryan, who is both an adoptive dad of two boys and also in a same sex relationship. We speak about the adoption process, which Ryan concedes is long and arduous, but with good reason. 

Ryan is candid about the challenges of raising adopted children, but he takes it in his stride. 

We also talk about raising children in a same sex family, a family set-up that I have always felt can be overlooked. It's also easy to forget that 20 years ago, same sex couples could not adopt in the UK. They're a very modern kind of family, but Ryan's experiences suggest they have been accepted with ease.  

In the first episode of Dad Pod UK I speak with Lee Sands. Lee is not only a great guy, but he's also a stepdad and advocate for blended families. He also writes the OurBlendedFamily blog. 

This interview was very personal for me. I have been a stepson myself since I was a young boy and I have long felt that stepdads and stepsons do not get the recognition they deserve. 

Lee and I talk about the challenges of blended / stepfamily life plus the positives and much in-between.

I'm better known for writing the blog DadBlogUK.Com but I was keen to try my hand at something new. To begin with I've produced a mini-series of podcasts, carrying out one-to-one interviews with dads from a variety of backgrounds.

I've interviewed a stepdad, an adoptive gay dad, a reformed criminal who spent many years behind bars, an involuntarily childless man and a dad from the BAME community.
