The High Priest Questions Jesus

John 18:19-24

It seems the high priest was ignorant of the doctrines of Jesus that had been teaching in the temple for approximately 31/2 years. Surely the sermon on the mount must’ve been circling around, but Jesus rebuked him and said, “You do know what I’ve been teaching. What the problem is, you don’t believe my doctrine. That’s why you want to crucify me.

Peter Denies Jesus

John 18:15-18

Peter was so quick to say that he would never deny the Lord, but he thought he could do this in the spirit of determination. But the Lord Jesus said to Peter, “You will deny me.” It must’ve been one of the grievous sins in the life of Peter to look back and see. That he denied the Lord. It says that he went out and wept bitterly, but the greatest feeling was when the Lord forgave him and used him again.

Jesus Faces Annas and Caiaphas

John 18:12-14

It was the high priest that offered the blood upon the mercy seat for the forgiveness of sin once a year. That day was called the day of atonement.

It’s no coincidence that the lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world went to the high priest. The Old Testament was a shadow of things to come, that is, Christ, a better in new living way.

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

The cup that Jesus talked about was the cup of the New Testament, in the book of Luke Jesus said “This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” What can wash away my sin nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Sanctified through the Truth

John 17:13-26

To be sanctified is to be set apart for God for his glory, for his pleasure, for his testimony that the lost and dying world may believe that he sent his only begotten Son to be the Savior of the world.

A fervent Prayer

John 17:5-12

Jesus was fervently praying for his disciples. He knew that the religious world hated him, and they also would hate his disciples. He prayed fervently that his disciples would have the same oneness with God as he did. He fervently prayed that he would not lose any of his disciples to the world. His prayers were answered. We have a copy of the works of the apostles. Glory to his name. Thank you, Jesus, for praying for us.

The High Priestly Prayer

John 17:1-6

Every work that Jesus did and every word that he said glorified his Father, but the greatest work was him going to the cross to die for the sins of the whole world that people may know the Father and glorify him and to lift up Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

I Have Overcome the World

John 16:25-33

There are a lot of people today that are trying to overcome things in their lives. Some are trying to overcome addictions, some are trying to overcome weight loss, and some are trying to overcome excessive spending. Jesus overcame the world, so you and I would have the power to be overcomers. There’s nothing that a Christian cannot overcome if they put their confidence in Jesus.

Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

John 16:16-24

The sorrow and the suffering of the cross, but the rejoicing at the resurrection. Peter had sorrow because he denied the Lord, but after he wept bitterly and repented, his sorrow was turned into joy. Judas had sorrow, but no repentance; only regret.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

John 16:4-15

Jesus just got done telling his disciples that the religious world hates the disciples and persecutes them because they are the disciples of Christ, but Jesus gives a message of comfort by sending the Holy Spirit that will guide them into all truth. Jesus said the truth will make you free, and you’ll be free indeed.
