This weekend I got to run in my first race since the pandemic. It was a little weird, a little awkward, and I was a little out of practice. And that's a solid analogy for all of us post-pandemic. Seems like the keys is to take it slow, expect it to be strange, and give yourself and others grace to stumble.

If Edge is the future, why is it taking so long? The answer is routing. There's no real advantage to dropping solutions at a tower if you can't get them directly. Public and private 5G networks are going to fix the routing problem. And that is going to change everything.

I do a lot of project based work, and the goal is to accomplish projects within a set timeframe. As long as I produce high quality content within an agreed upon timeframe, it shouldn't matter how long it actually took me to do the work. And yet, I still have this nagging idea in the back of my head about working 40 hours.

Behavior and motivation is a super-complicated topic and parsing out how an organization will react to the way its measured is a enigma many an MBA have failed to crack. Ultimately, you have to know what your organization is trying to accomplish, figure out what you need to measure to get there, and make the process transparent for your employees.

And yet… There's a perception that upgrading systems should be a difficult affair. It's how sysadmins prove their mettle. You know what? I don't have to prove a damn thing. Upgrades should be simple, predictable, and uneventful. We've managed to crack that nut on consumer devices, now it's time to apply the same logic to enterprise apps.

Following quickly on the acquisition by Vista Equity Partners, Pluralsight (now flush with investor capital) has made the move to acquire A Cloud Guru for an undisclosed sum. ACG itself had acquired Linux Academy in late 2019 and is still working through the integration process. Reddit is displeased, but I think it's necessary consolidation in the marketplace.
