Each year, our family will carefully plan, plant, and protect a vegetable garden to enjoy fresh home-grown vegetables. But, if we want to enjoy home-grown vegetables all year, we must take the next step to protect them from rotting through the process of preservation.

One of God’s promises is that He would preserve His Word. Through the centuries, He has protected it from decay so that it continues to be profitable for all generations.

The Psalmist said, “The words of the LORD are pure words…O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

Just as God has supernaturally moved on the hearts of men to give us the Bible, He has also worked supernaturally to preserve the Bible so that we can trust completely in it.

Jesus assured us, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

2 Corinthians tells us that “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.” And as those that are in Christ, are “workers together with him.” If we are working together with Christ, our lives ought to daily be aligned to match the Saviour’s.

In one Peanuts comic strip Sally was struggling with her memory verse for Sunday. She was absorbed in her thoughts trying to figure it out when she remembered, “Maybe it was something from the book of Reevaluation.”

She never did find the memory verse, but it reminds us that we should always read the Bible with the intent of reevaluating our attitudes and actions to make sure they are in line with the truth of God’s Word.

Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t put down? Or maybe a book that changed your life? The Bible is the one book that is both riveting and life changing.

The Psalmist said, “I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.”

The Bible has the power to bring us from death to life because it contains the Gospel of Christ.

Gipsy Smith told of a man who said he had received no inspiration from the Bible although he had “gone through it several times.” Smith Replied, “Let it go through you once, then you will tell a different story!”

If you will read God’s Word and by faith trust in the salvation of Christ, you will know the life changing power of God’s Word.

In the early 1800’s Napoleon’s army appeared with eighteen thousand men before an Austrian town, which had no defense. The town council had nearly decided to surrender when the church leadership reminded them that it was Easter, and they should worship Christ and leave the matter to God.

Trusting God, they began to ring the church bells. Upon hearing the bells, the French supposed that an army was headed their way and they quickly retreated.

The key for victory was trusting in the Lord. This is true for our lives today. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart” is God’s call to us in Proverbs. If you are struggling with an overwhelming situation, turn to the Lord for help in time of need.

When Christ rose from the dead, Thomas, one of Christs disciples,was not present. Although his friends had personally seen Jesus, and testified of Christ’s appearance, Thomas doubted their word. He asserted that He wouldn’t believe until he touched Christ’s risen body. Perhaps he was really from Missouri!

Years later, God would inspire Peter to write, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy…”. Although the gospel accounts are eye witness accounts of Christ’s life and resurrection, a more sure word is the Word of God. Because “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

In other words, We can always trust God’s Word over the word of man.

Throughout the centuries, there have been an estimated 170 million books that man has written. The Bible holds the distinguished record as the best selling book of all time. The Bible is unique because it is not just man’s word; rather, it is the Word of God. 1 Peter says, “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”  1 Peter also makes the promise that, “the word of the Lord endureth for ever.”

Through the centuries, men have tried to destroy the Bible, but the Lord has protected and preserved it. So that today, we are confident that the Bible is God’s Word speaking to us today. May we devote ourselves not just learning the Bible, but walking with the God of the Bible.
