The Bible clearly teaches that there is only one God.

Isaiah said, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me…”

Ephesians says, “One God, and Father of all, who is above all, and through all and in you all.”

This basic truth is essential for us to understand because the implications are far reaching. Over the millennia, man has worshiped anything and everything. From the dolphins in the sea, to the idols made from wood and stone. The natural man rejects the True God.

Why? When there is only One True God, then we cannot be our own god. We were created. And so, we are responsible to The Creator. Hebrews says, “As it is appointed unto man once to die, after this the judgment.” Make sure your life is ready to stand before the One True God.

William Phelps taught English literature at Yale for 41 years until his retirement in 1933. While proofing an examination paper, he came across this note: “God only knows the answer to this question.”

Phelps returned the paper with this note, “God gets an A, you get an F”

There may be things you struggle to understand, but God has worked throughout human history to reveal Himself to us.

1 Timothy says, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into Glory.”

Although it seemed a mystery as to how God would offer forgiveness of sins in the Old Testament, Christ’s coming revealed the mystery of forgiveness of sins and hope for man.

If you read the Bible, you will notice that God never provides us evidence of His existence. Rather, the existence of God is assumed because it is seen in nature around us. But it is also evident through the conscience of man’s heart.

Romans says “when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law…show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness.”

God has hardwired the knowledge of Himself into our hearts when He made us. It has been wisely observed that no one is born an atheist. Rather, our heart testifies of God’s existence.

People can and do reject the knowledge of God, but it is not because there is no evidence. Let us be diligent in praying for and witnessing to those that reject the Lord.

There are two times in world history when the entire world knew the revealed truth of who God is. The first was at the original creation. It was there in the Garden that God formed Adam and Eve, and they had the privilege to know God and walk with Him in the garden.

The second time was immediately following the global flood as recorded in Genesis. Noah and his family knew the Lord and trusted in God’s salvation.

Today, the population of the world has exceeded 8 billion people and the sad reality is that most people are lost without Jesus Christ. Yet, God has provided a modern day ark of salvation through Jesus Christ. While the thought of 8 billion people to share the gospel with is daunting, God is asking if you will simply focus on leading one to salvation in Christ. Together, we can make a huge impact on our generation.

Every person needs to know their origin. An orphan will search a lifetime to learn about their birth parents because they need to know where they came from. God understands this need and so He shares with us in Hebrews, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God…”

It is then by faith we understand that the Lord created all that we behold. When you open your Bible, it begins with a book entitled, “Genesis” which means beginnings, and it tells us how all that we see came into existence, including ourselves.

Because we came from God, He is also the one that gives us purpose. God reminds Israel of this truth when He said through Isaiah, “For I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Let us choose to live for His glory today.

If you have ever been to London, one of the notable landmarks is “Big Ben.” Which is probably the most famous clock of all time. Completed in 1859, it stands 316 feet tall. With just one look, it is easy to declare, that there is an original designer.

In the same way, the Bible says that “The heavens declare the glory of God.” When we look around us, all of nature declares that there is an original designer. There is no mistaking the finger print of God on all that we see.

Yet, just knowing that God exists is not enough. God revealed Himself through creation, but then He personally entered into Humanity so that we might know Him.

Jesus said, “No man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Only Jesus is able to make possible a relationship with God. I urge you to get to know God by knowing Jesus.

If you have ever felt the pain of rejection, you are not alone because it is one of the most commonly shared human experiences. It is also one of the most painful of all experiences. But the good news is that our Lord knows what you are going through. The Bible says of Jesus, “He is despised and rejected of men…”

Because Christ was rejected by men, He was sentenced to death on the cross. This rejection bought us forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life through Him. Ephesians then declares, “wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”

This acceptance is not based on our works, but on His love, grace and mercy. To receive this wonderful gift of God, the Bible says we must simply call upon Him in faith trusting in His completed work on the cross. Today, God invites you to trust on Christ and find acceptance in Him.

What direction are you going?

A sailor was once left in charge of a ship, with directions from the captain to keep his eye fixed on a certain star and keep the ship directed towards it. The captain went below to rest, but, after awhile he awoke, went on deck, to find the ship sailing exactly opposite from his directions. When the Captian asked about it, the sailor replied, “Captain, I need another star, for I've sailed clear by that other one!”

The Bible gives us a course that God wants us to follow. James said, “Whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth there in…this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

Determine two things in your life today: make God’s Word a regular part of your life, and determine to obey whatever is plainly revealed in Scripture. 

H. L. Hunt made millions as a Texas oilman. He was an aggressive businessman with little regard for time. His chief confidant, John, might be called in the middle of the day as easily as in the middle of the night.

One night at 2:00 AM, Hunt phoned John. He told him excitedly, “John, I just made the greatest trade of my life. I traded the here for the hereafter… I just got saved.”

Romans says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

This simple decision to place your faith in Christ is the wisest decision you will ever make. If you have never trusted Christ as your Saviour, you need to trade the here for the hereafter.

Someone once said, “Christianity is one generation away from extinction.” One of the great heartbreaks of life is to see children walk away from the faith of their parents.

While we can’t control the decisions of others, we can choose to invest in the life of our children and grand-children. Moses taught the fathers in his day, “And these words…shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently to thy children.”

Moses would have shared these words with the heads of the tribes, who would have shared them with the fathers of the families, who would have shared them with the children. Those fathers of the households were responsible to share God’s truth in their home.

Take time each day to read the Bible and pray together; preserving the faith to the next generation.
