Lately, I’ve been reading “I Am Maria” by Maria Shriver—a raw, wise, and unexpectedly funny poetry collection that proves resilience doesn’t always come dressed in perfect grammar or polished productivity hacks.
It shows up in short, soulful stanzas about heartbreak, divorce, grief... and the equally terrifying journey of figuring out who you are after all the titles and expectations fall away.
Turns out, vulnerability isn’t a liability—it’s leadership.
Maria doesn’t pretend to have it all together. She gives us permission to be in process—to feel deeply, to make peace with our flaws, and to see emotional honesty as strength, not weakness.
Here are a few things I took away:
-Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is admit you’re still healing.
-Empowerment starts when we stop performing and start showing up.
-A short poem can teach more than a long meeting ever will.
This book reminded me that true leadership includes space for compassion, self-awareness, and yes—sometimes, crying in your car.
If you’re looking for a thoughtful reset (without needing a silent retreat or a dramatic haircut), give it a read.
