Supply Chain Woes Continue

There are now 111 container ships waiting to unload in California’s ports.

For the past several months, shipping vessels delivering consumer goods from Asian markets have idled in the Pacific Ocean as the United States faces labor shortages, creating bottlenecks in key California ports. As a result, retailers and suppliers across the United States are short on inventory to meet consumer demand.

Even after action from the Biden administration, more consumer goods than ever remain stranded. As Business Insider reported on Wednesday:

According to data from the Marine Exchange, a total of 111 container ships are bobbing at sea around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, waiting to dock and unload. That breaks the previous record of 108 vessels reported on October 21.

The two ports remain clogged despite efforts to speed up the processing of containers amid a surge in consumer demand for goods. The White House announced a shift to an around-the-clock schedule in October and a new looming threat of fines for leaving containers on the docks for several days.

Analysts expect that the crisis will endure for the foreseeable future. In a recent Wall Street Journal poll of economists, roughly half cited supply chain bottlenecks as “the biggest threat to economic growth in the next twelve to eighteen months” — with 45% estimating that bottlenecks will not recede until the second half of 2022.

Indictment for Russia Collusion

Igor Danchenko, a Russian national who lives in Virginia, was charged with five counts of making false statements to the FBI last week. Danchenko is said to be the sub-source for Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer, who compiled the dossier that served as the basis for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] warrants against Trump campaign aide Carter Page. [All of this was the basis for claiming that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.] 

While a number of fair minded people were asking lots of questions about the accusations of collusion with Russia, almost every Democrat on the Intelligence Committee in 2017 and 2018, when the committee probed Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 elections, strongly defended the dossier. 

For example, Adam Schiff, now the Intelligence committee's chair, was one of the most vocal voices in Congress in pumping the dossier. While the Republican majority issued subpoenas to get testimony under oath regarding the claims of the dossier, Schiff tweeted: 

"Unilateral subpoenas issued by House Intel Majority appear to be part of effort to discredit Steele, rather than determine truth of dossier," Schiff tweeted in 2017.

According to CNN: 

If you're among the millions of people who use payment apps like PayPal, Venmo, Square, and other third-party electronic payment networks, you could be affected by a tax reporting change that goes into effect in January.

Payment app providers will have to start reporting to the IRS a user's business transactions if, in aggregate, they total $600 or more for the year. A business transaction is defined as payment for a good or service.

Prior to this change, app providers only had to send the IRS a Form 1099-K if an individual account had at least 200 business transactions in a year and if those transactions combined resulted in gross payments of at least $20,000.

The expansion of the reporting rule is the result of a provision in the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law earlier this year. The ultimate aim of the provision is to clamp down on unreported, taxable income.

The rule change also does not make other transactions suddenly taxable. For instance, your friend sending you money on Venmo to reimburse you for their half of last night's dinner tab will not become taxable.

The biggest change is the increased visibility the IRS will have into business income transactions, both those that have always been reported by the income recipient and those that haven't been.

Alaskan Governor Mike Dunleavy Issues Order

Background:

Recent actions and statements by President Biden attempt to control the health and welfare of Alaskans; an area clearly within the sovereign authority of the State of Alaska under the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. (“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”).

Neither the President nor the federal government may arbitrarily claim authority from Congress in order to violate the Tenth Amendment. If Congress has not passed clear and specific legislation authorizing action, the federal government cannot impose its will on States and their residents.

… Under the authority of Article III, Sections 1, 16, and 24 of the Constitution of the State of Alaska, I, Mike Dunleavy, Governor of the State of Alaska, order the following:

The Attorney General shall review any new federal law, regulation, or policy related to IRS monitoring of bank accounts owned by Alaskans and Alaskan businesses.

The Attorney General shall review any federal vaccine mandate issued by the Biden Administration and determine whether there are legal grounds to challenge such mandates in court.

To the extent allowable by law, no state agency shall participate in, or use state funds or personnel, to further a federal vaccine mandate for employers.

The Attorney General will review and oppose efforts by the Federal Government to monitor and negatively affect the ability of Alaskan parents to exercise their constitutional rights by participating in school board meetings.

To the extent allowable by law, no state agency shall participate with a federal agency, or spend state funds to participate in, or further any action by a federal agency that infringes on the constitutional rights of Alaskans. Nor may a state agency take actions that would unconstitutionally chill free speech or infringe upon other constitutional rights exercised by citizens against or in support of local school district policies. State agencies shall continue to enforce the criminal code of the State of Alaska.

If a federal agency proposes an action to a state agency that would require a state agency to act in a manner that may violate the Alaska or U.S. Constitution, the agency’s commissioner shall immediately inform the Attorney General for the State of Alaska and seek legal advice as to how to proceed.

Even if this doesn’t have much legal teeth, I would still encourage more of this kind of talk by all lesser magistrates. This is called the bully pulpit, and it is one of the ways leaders lead.  This is important for fathers, husbands, pastors, and magistrates of every stripe. Say it outloud. Say what is true.

Facebook is shutting down its facial recognition software

According to CNN

“Facebook said Tuesday it plans to stop using facial-recognition software that could automatically recognize people in photos and videos posted on the social network, marking a massive shift both for the tech industry and for a company known for collecting vast amounts of data about its billions of users.

Facebook, which changed its company name to Meta in late October, also said it plans to delete the data it had gathered through its use of this software, which is associated with over a billion people's faces.

The move to both stop using the software and to wipe the data that is related to existing users of the feature marks an about-face for Facebook, which has been a major user and proponent of the technology. For years, the social network has allowed people to opt in to a facial-recognition setting that would automatically tag them in pictures and videos. Pesenti wrote that more than a third of the company's daily active users had opted in to the setting — or more than 643 million people, as Facebook had 1.93 billion daily active users in the third quarter of 2021.”

But wait that same CNN article also quoted Jerome Pesenti saying this:

“Facebook will still be working on facial recognition technology, however, and may use it in its products — range from social networks to a futuristic pair of picture-taking glasses — in the future.

"Looking ahead, we still see facial recognition technology as a powerful tool, for example, for people needing to verify their identity, or to prevent fraud and impersonation," Pesenti wrote.

In his post, Pesenti pointed to concerns about the appropriateness of the technology, which has come under scrutiny as it's increasingly used but, in the US, at least, barely regulated.

"We need to weigh the positive use cases for facial recognition against growing societal concerns, especially as regulators have yet to provide clear rules," Pesenti wrote.”

At the end of the video, the same guy who is heard saying let’s go into the capital several times is then seen saying something into the ear of a younger guy who then begins pushing on a blockade with several other guys and knocking it over -- knocking over one security guard in the process.

“A retired marine from Albert Lea, Minnesota, wants to take Walmart to court after a pharmacist refused to fill his doctor's prescription for ivermectin to treat his case of COVID-19.

Bill Salier, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Somalia and a former U.S. Senate candidate, shared his story Monday on the "Steve Deace Show," describing how a local Walmart pharmacist refused to fulfill a doctor's prescription for ivermectin for both him and his wife, who had each come down with COVID-19.

Salier, 53, told BlazeTV host Steve Deace that he began feeling sick on Oct. 1, and after testing he was found positive for COVID-19. After his diagnosis, Salier said he attempted to receive monoclonal antibody treatments by applying through the Minnesota Resource Allocation Platform, but his requests went unanswered.

"We never so much as heard a word back, not even in acknowledgement that the requests had been put in," Salier said.

"The prescription was sent in to our local Walmart, here in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and it was refused to be filled by the pharmacist. This pharmacist contacted my wife, telling her that he would not fill it. My wife stated that he did not have the right to stand between our physician's prescription and the patent, he asserted that he did have that right and he refused to do so," Salier said.

Salier says he and his wife were left in "limbo" after the pharmacist continued to deny them access to ivermectin, even after their physician called him to discuss the matter.

"We were faced with either continuing to suffer and quite possibly ending up in the hospital," he told Deace, explaining that they decided to take a risk and purchased a horse paste version of the drug that is not intended for human consumption and could be dangerous if overdosed.

“A lot of people want to convince you that you need a Ph.D. or a law degree or dozens of hours of free time to read dense texts about critical theory to understand the woke movement and its worldview. You do not. You simply need to believe your own eyes and ears. 

Let me offer the briefest overview of the core beliefs of the Woke Revolution, which are abundantly clear to anyone willing to look past the hashtags and the jargon...

...In this ideology, speech is violence. But violence, when carried out by the right people in pursuit of a just cause, is not violence at all. In this ideology, bullying is wrong, unless you are bullying the right people, in which case it’s very, very good. In this ideology, education is not about teaching people how to think, it’s about reeducating them in what to think. In this ideology, the need to feel safe trumps the need to speak truthfully...

How did we get here? There are a lot of factors that are relevant to the answer…  

But there is one word we should linger on, because every moment of radical victory turned on it. The word is cowardice.

The revolution has been met with almost no resistance by those who have the title CEO or leader or president or principal in front of their names. The refusal of the adults in the room to speak the truth, their refusal to say no to efforts to undermine the mission of their institutions, their fear of being called a bad name and that fear trumping their responsibility—that is how we got here.

Weiss continues: “George Orwell said that “the further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” In an age of lies, telling the truth is high risk. It comes with a cost. But it is our moral obligation.

It is our duty to resist the crowd in this age of mob thinking. It is our duty to think freely in an age of conformity. It is our duty to speak truth in an age of lies. 

This bravery isn’t the last or only step in opposing this revolution—it’s just the first. After that must come honest assessments of why America was vulnerable to start with, and an aggressive commitment to rebuilding the economy and society in ways that once again offer life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to the greatest number of Americans.

But let’s start with a little courage.

Courage means, first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered by the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.”

Weiss goes on to give a list of her own suggestions of where to throw down with current lies being circulated.
