Daily Signal

Decades of social engineering have transformed America's armed forces, prompting concerns about the Pentagon's warfighting capabilities and politicized culture. It's the reason President-elect Donald Trump picked Pete Hegseth as his nominee for secretary of defense: to restore lethality as the military's primary focus.

Fixing the Pentagon won't be easy, but it's imperative to restore America's fighting force.

On this episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast," former Army Ranger Will Thibeau shares firsthand accounts from his service and outlines the startling changes at the Department of Defense since then. Thibeau, who directs the American Military Project at the Claremont Institute's Center for the American Way of Life, diagnoses the problems—and what it will take to restore the military's core mission of combat readiness.

For anyone concerned about the future of American military power, Thibeau provides a perspective on what went wrong—and how to make it right.

Authorities are slowly learning more about what motivated 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar to turn a truck into a weapon on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday morning.

The act of terror left 15 people dead and another 35 injured. The FBI believes Jabbar acted alone and, despite being a military veteran, was inspired by ISIS. An ISIS flag was found in the truck Jabbar was driving and in a post on Facebook, Jabbar admits to joining ISIS.

Cully Stimson, Heritage Foundation senior legal fellow and policy expert in crime control, national security, immigration, and homeland security, join The Daily Signal Podcast Bonus Edition to discuss the FBI's investigation into the attack. Stimson also addresses the likelihood the attack was linked with the explosion of the Cybertruck outside one of Donald Trump's hotel in Las Vegas.

Recalling stories of his famous ancestor, Bowman shares the incredible tale of Francisco's life: from his mysterious beginnings in the Azores Islands, to his kidnapping by pirates and arrival on Virginia's shores, to becoming a 6'6" towering figure in America's fight for independence.

Bowman, author of the historical novel "LUSO," discusses Francisco's legendary feats, including the famous Battle of Guilford Courthouse, where his prowess in combat is commemorated by a monument to this day. Discover how Francisco's legacy lives on through seven monuments, state holidays, and even a 1976 bicentennial stamp.

Aviva Siegel has not seen her husband Keith in a year, a separation made more painful by the fact that she knows firsthand what her husband is going through. Siegel was hostage in Gaza with her husband for 51 days before being freed in a hostage deal. Kept underground in Hamas tunnels, Siegel describes her capacity as “hell.”

“I touched death, and that's one of the hardest things on earth,” Siegel said. “While we were lying there, I was trying to think, what is it going to feel like? Am I going to die before Keith? And just prayed that I'd die first because I did not want to see Keith suffer.”

Siegel sits down with The Daily Signal to share her harrowing experience as a hostage in Gaza, and to call for her husband’s freedom.

Following the conversation with Siegel, Yarden Gonen and Amit Levy join the show to share about their siblings, Romi Gonen, 24, and Naama Levy, 20, who were taken hostage on Oct. 7. The two young women are among 10 females still believed to be alive and being held hostage by Hamas.

Following the election of President Donald Trump in November, California Gov. Gavin Newson, a Democrat, convened a special session of the state legislatures to “Trump-proof” California. At the top of the agenda is Newson’s effort to prevent a Trump administration from deporting illegal aliens living in the state.

“This is going against the rule of law and against the will of the American people” who elected Trump, Allison Huynh said of Newson’s efforts.

Democrats in California have “romanticized” sanctuary cities and even crime, according to Huynh, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and former Democrat.

“We’re just opening the gate and allowing all these illegal immigrants to come in, a lot of criminals, drug dealers, and it’s all funded by George Soros and the cartels,” she said.

A narrative has been perpetuated in California that justifies crime in the name of being kind to the poor, according to Huynh, but the reality is that “were basically frogs being boiled alive.”

Huynh grew up in a Marxist Communist country until the age of seven when her family left Vietnam and moved to America, and says she is watching as her state embraces “full blown socialism.”

Huynh joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how Newson’s actions are moving her state towards socialism, and if there is any hope left for California.
