Daily Thunder Podcast

In our modern day, the most well-known of the seven letters is the one to Laodicea. Yet, while we know many of Jesus' statements to that church, we don't understand the background, the city itself, and how Jesus introduces Himself (and why that is important). That is the focus of this study from Revelation 3:14.

Merle Oddbody is a very unexpected and humorous character in the novel, Hoodlum, written by Eric and his son Hudson (view it on Amazon here).

Merle Oddbody is synonymous with weakness, foolishness, and being a stranger in this earth—things that most of us labor hard to avoid. If we had the opportunity to transform into one of the characters from the Hoodlum universe, we would likely not pick to become Merle. We would likely lean towards becoming a character like Will Scarlett, Robin Hood, Charles Blakeney, Lady Marion, or Ambrick Miller. All good sensible choices. And yet, Jesus chose to become a Merle Oddbody. If we can learn to see what God sees, we would see that weakness is actually the secret avenue to strength.

Eric Ludy is freshly stirred on the topic of manhood. This rugged topic has been one of his signature passion points for the past three decades and this little three-part mini-series represents a simple reprise. Due to this "fresh stirring" Eric's added a couple of new episodes to his Honorable Manhood training series. The Church in Philadelphia was unique in that Jesus gave no critique nor a command to repent—it was a weak church, but one that was faithful. In this study, we examine the background of the city and Jesus' introduction as the One who is "holy, true, and has the key of David." This profound statement speaks to us today and beckons us to trust in Him who has the divine right to rule and reign.

You may know him as Eric Ludy, but for a theatre show, entitled Dragon Mountain, that debuted on the Ellerslie stage in 2024, he became Joe Hardy (at least for the night). Still to this day, opening night of the Dragon Mountain theatre show ranks up there as one of Eric’s favorite life events.

To Sardis's desperate condition, Jesus gives a series of imperatives that are … imperative if they want to live. Jesus tells the church to wake up, repent, remember, and strengthen what little life there may still be in their body before they die. And yet, amidst this call of repentance, Jesus gives an incredible encouragement to the overcomers.

The Church in Sardis was dying and Jesus exhorted them to wake up—in short, He was offering spiritual defibrillator paddles. In this study, we explore Jesus' statement to the church (where nothing good is said about them), but are reminded that even in the deadest, driest, and darkest places, there is always a remnant.
