This is the fifteenth installment in Eric Ludy’s epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode explores the feigned motives of Germany and France in WW1 and then contrasts them with their actual motives when the bullets started flying. As Christians, like Germany and France, we often have ulterior motives, too. We can say our life is about the Glory of Christ when in actuality it is about our own glory. God desires to purify the motivational center of our life so that we might actually live for His Glory.
We are called to a simple but radical devotion to Jesus Christ. He is to be Lord of our lives and we are to love Him with all we are and all we have. In this episode, Nathan Johnson talks about our ever expanding and exclusive devotion to God and how He must have first place in our daily activities, thoughts, words, emotions, relationships, future goals, and every other area of our lives.

This is the fourteenth installment in Eric Ludy’s epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode takes us to St. Petersburg, Russia in 1914 and some strange goings on in the royal palace. It involves an insecure King, a fretful Queen, a sickly boy, and a Mad Monk. It is a story that is both bizarre and powerfully convicting. For like Nicholas and Alexandra, many of us have allowed the “Mad Monk” into our own living rooms under the auspices of crazy justification.
Many think that the final statement of Moses in the Shema—to love the Lord with all your might—refers to loving God with our muscles and physical strength. Yet, while Moses is concerned that you love God with the physical aspect of your life, the Hebrew idea of “might” or “strength” of your life again goes beyond what we presume—it includes everything you have like your possessions, money, time, and talent. In this message, Nathan Johnson discusses what it means to love God with all our might and gives ourselves to a total devotion to Jesus Christ.

This is the thirteenth installment in Eric Ludy’s epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode takes us to an unexpected war theater in the Wild West. The story of surging conflict in 1914 is going to take us all the way to Mexico. And the intrigue runs deep as Germany labors to stir up animosity between the United States and Mexico in order to keep the U.S. distracted from assisting in a European war.

This is the twelfth installment in Eric Ludy’s epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode investigates the uncomfortable atmosphere in Great Britain in 1914 as the Great War was breaking out. It was an atmosphere of sharp division and contrasting viewpoints. In fact, the division was so sharp that a unified national action against the German aggression in Belgium seemed unlikely. But, in the midst of this chaos, a man stepped onto the stage that would speak clarity to the nation amidst the terrible fog of war.
Our modern culture typically uses the term “soul” to refer to the mind, will, and emotions of a person … or the disembodied part of us that lives forever. But the Hebrew concept is strangely different and more encompassing. In this message, Nathan Johnson explores what a “soul” is, why you don’t have one (you are one), and what it means to love God with all of it.

This is the eleventh installment in Eric Ludy’s epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode explores the Biblical theme of change. Is change a good thing or a bad thing? Well, that depends on what sort of change it is. Using the Russian War Minister, Vladimir Sukhomlinov, as the muse, this message unpacks the importance of change when wielded by the Holy Spirit. Because the lack of change, when change is required, can lead to absolute devastation.
We are told the greatest commandment and the summary of the Law is to love God with ALL of our heart, soul, and might. But what does it mean to love God with our heart? Our modern culture equates the heart with emotions and feelings, but in ancient Israelite culture, the heart was so much more. In this message, Nathan Johnson examines the heart, what Moses means by loving God with all your “heart,” and gives three ways we can do so today.
