The start of a New Year brings a fresh feeling of promise, optimism, and enthusiasm. Too bad it lasts about as long as it takes someone or something else to ruin it for you. Face it, it's the age we live in.
Why do we continue to give these things so much power over us? Do we not have power over ourselves? Wouldn't New Years Resolutions have a higher success rate?
We do have that power. In fact, New Years Resolutions have a 100% success rate in that EVERYONE and ANYONE can make a New Years Resolution. Where we fail, is when we speak and act as if the resolution itself is enough- forgetting all the work, commitment, and discipline needed to realize it.
New Year's resolutions carry low expectations. No one expects them to last, above all, the one who is resolute. After this, we deny accountable for our lack of follow through by saying, "Well, I tried..."
