Prayer is typically seen by many Catholics as a good thing…but perhaps not a necessary or even effective thing. Often we say our prayers (when we say our prayers) and hope for the best, rather like the role of dice. Other times it is more wishful thinking than anything else. And, of course, when all else fails it becomes our last resort…”now, all we can do is pray.” But what if we have been selling prayer short? What if we don’t pray fully because we’re afraid it actually will work? In focused, intentional, and God honoring prayer we can actually connect with the power that created the heavens and the earth, the power greater than every other. In prayer we meet this same God and draw upon his power.
