Ruthie Elliott: The Brotherhood of Motherhood – Part 1

Take 25 minutes over lunch to nourish your soul!

Becoming a mom ushers you into a secret club, giving you a depth of experience and fellowship all moms share. Ruthie calls it, “The Brotherhood of Motherhood.” You’re never the same again…and better for it!

While raising seven children, Ruthie Elliott (aka Ruth Elliott-Hilsdon) became an Emmy Award-Winning animation artist. Through it all, her real dream was to influence children everywhere to become better people.

In 2003, she launched GoMommyGO® to empower parents with free resources for positive reinforcement. Then, in 2007, she founded Edu Designs, a non-profit charity that creates and distributes media for children’s character development.

And now, Ruthie also coaches women at Spirit-Led Supermoms, to help them get in touch with the things they have the hardest time saying.

In Part 1 of their conversation, Nada and Ruthie discuss:

    • Ruthie’s experience as one of the animation artists on The Simpsons, and earning an Emmy Award for her work
    • Raising seven children while navigating a difficult marriage
    • How Ruthie’s work helps women discover their real feelings
    • The domino effect of what can happen when we squash ourselves while caring for others
    • Why Ruthie spent eight years of her life worrying if she was being good enough to not be killed

    Key takeaways:

    1. Success is when preparation and opportunity meet
    2. There is a “divine appointment” in life
    3. Finding a way to get along with others without sacrificing yourself is one of life’s most important skills
    4. If you don’t show the real you, how can you feel truly loved?
    5. When a person believes a lie, it can cause an avalanche of mistakes

Martin is truly honored to serve as a healer, teacher, and catalyst for transformation. For 30 years, he was a massage therapist, licensed acupuncturist, and psycho/spiritual healer. For the last 15 years, he has been on faculty at Northwestern Health Sciences University, helping to prepare other fortunate souls to enter the healing profession.

  • Lorraine Hoving: The Big Greatness of My Life – Part 1
Lorraine Hoving: The Big Greatness of My Life – Part 1

Take 25 minutes over lunch to nourish your soul!

Lorraine Hoving has always been an eternal optimist, even when she didn’t believe it for herself.

When she turned 60 years old, she realized if God blessed her with 30 more years on earth, then her life was already two-thirds over. All the goals she had set out to do year after year — the weight she had vowed to lose, the health she promised to obtain, and daily organization that had eluded her — all lay there in a big heap of empty promises. Some promises were over 45 years old! Was this all? Would she ever change or could she ever change?

She dug deep and decided she had no choice but to do something about her situation. She took a personal development class, learned to love herself, face the trauma of her past, learned to forgive others and, most importantly, forgave herself. She took an online class on style and fashion, hired a trainer, took adventures with her husband, and immersed herself in learning and improving every single day. She has lost a total of 125 lbs and continues on her path to total health and wellness in mind and body!

In Part 1 of their conversation, Nada and Lorraine discuss:

    • Why turning 60 was such a life changer for Lorraine
    • How Lorraine gained and lost 130+ pounds
    • Reconnecting with her joyful little girl self
    • Being blessed by a husband who married her because of her heart
    • Asking the tough questions

    Key takeaways:

    1. When you are older, you need to realize there is less life ahead
    2. You have to take a full 100% responsibility for your life
    3. You can’t hide an addiction to food like you can drugs or alcohol
    4. In our traumas we lose the little girl or boy in us and the freedom to just be ourselves
    5. Deep joy and laughter come from truly liking and loving yourself

Gail Zelitzky and Catherine Marienau: Women Over 70 – Aging Reimagined

Take 25 minutes over lunch to nourish your soul!

Gail Zelitzky and Catherine Marienau launched Women Over 70: Aging Reimagined as a way to celebrate women as they age.

Gail is a lifelong entrepreneur and the previous owner of two multi-million dollar companies. For the past 20 years, she has coached business owners, their teams, and groups to practice creative leadership. Two years ago, Gail began Wonder Women Mastermind. Now, at age 78, Gail is excited to work with women in various stages of transition to reimagine life as they age. Gail is an author, speaker mentor, and recipient of numerous awards, including the David O. Justice Alumni Award in 2019 from DePaul University’s School for New Learning.

Catherine has been listening to women’s stories for nearly 50 years — as mentor to female students (ages 35-80), as instructor of women’s issues, and as researcher-writer on women as learners and on vital women in their 70s. Her primary context has been innovative, customized degree programs for adult learners, most of whom are women. Now, at age 71, Catherine has moved from a full-time faculty position to focus on her “passion projects” — women’s learning and development through the lens of aging, and adult learning through the lens of neuroscience.

In this episode, Nada, Gail, and Catherine discuss:

    1. What has kept Gail and Catherine going after many years in their respective fields.
    2. How they decided to launch their podcast, “Women Over 70,” in July of 2019.
    3. What inspires Gail and Catherine to keep living full and passionate lives while in their 70s.
    4. Aging on our own terms.
    5. Creating a huge and supportive community for women in their 50s and beyond.
    6. Interviewing women pioneers of the social justice movement.

      Key takeaways:

    • It’s not just the stories, but being involved with the stories that allow us to travel where we haven’t before.
    • We’ve got to stop talking about this and do something about it!
    • There is so much excitement and interest in hearing other women’s stories.
    • We can shatter the myth that women get invisible as they age.
    • We can be seduced by learning something new.
