Katie Elliott: Little Challenges – Part 1

Take 25 minutes over lunch to feed your soul!

Katie Elliott is the host of Adventures in Behaviour Change podcast. She is also a successful author, artist, musician, and creator of AmikoCards. As the creative mind behind Little Challenges, Katie uses ideas, inspiration, and practical tools to help make the messy business of being human just a little bit easier.

Katie had noticed that when she started something new, it would go well for a while, and then she would fall apart. It was as if she were programmed to fail. When she had a life-changing breakdown in 2016, Katie started to teach herself how to have a happier, healthier, more productive life. Within four months, she no longer qualified for any mental health diagnosis for the first time in her adult life. She has remained well ever since.

In the first part of their conversation on Dare Ah New Belief, Nada and Katie discuss:

    1. How to make being human a little bit easier.
    2. Katie’s breakdowns in her teenage years, and how it got worse as time went on.
    3. Having a massive breakdown in 2016, and attempting to take her own life.
    4. The inner critical voice.
    5. Feeling so broken that it was even painful to breathe.

    Key takeaways:

    • The more we can help one another along the way — hold out our hand and offer encouragement and a bit of friendship — the better it is.
    • Spending a lot of time in our heads can often make us forget we have a body attached.
    • The experience of being here is quite mysterious; we don’t often have language for or understand it.
    • Grand achievements are often not the answer to how miserable we can feel on the inside.
    • One of the hardest things after attempting suicide is making peace with what you have done.
