News of the Miscellany, review of Godzilla vs Kong

Hello, after a long hiatus I’m am back.

Here is my Christmas special that I was fighting with Audacity to get out. Obviously, Audacity won. However, I figured hey, better something than nothing so here with explanatory bumpers at the beginning and end is the December 20th Fishnets and phantoms.

It has News of the Miscellany, Christmastime Terrors, and a review of Vampires vs the Bronx.

One of the most talked about horror and science fiction films of 2020 was HONEYMOON PHASE.  The movie takes place in the not too distant future where holographic technology and interactive appliances are the norm.  The female lead (and also the producer) was Chloe Carroll, a brand new talent that has definitely brought the attention of many genre fans.  And the film is available on Tubi for free!

Chloe though is not a “one trick pony”.   Besides acting and producing, she also manages FEAR CRYPT, a YouTube channel of short horror films that has almost eight thousand followers.  One of the shorts took off with over six hundred thousand views!  Is it worth checking out?  Absolutely.  That’s almost eight hours of free horror movies by up and coming performers, directors, and screenwriters.

Halloween Boutique Psychotronic Reviews was lucky enough to interview Chloe and talk about all the exciting projects she’s a part of.  The discussion includes not only about her work on HONEYMOON PHASE and FEAR CRYPT, but also acting, producing, upcoming projects, and of course women in the horror and genre industry.  Take a listen and hear what she has to say.

The new 2021 horror films are now beginning to trickle out.  One of them is the latest Canadian made movie THE SINNERS (2021).  Originally entitled THE COLOR ROSE during its festival run, the movie has gotten first time director Courtney Paige some notice.  Released only days ago, some have said the movie is a showcase for both the director and its leading actress Kaitlyn Bernard who plays Grace.

Grace (Kaitlyn Bernard) and her six friends have been named the Sinners by their high school classmates because each has taken on the identity of one of the seven deadly sins.  Grace, known as “lust”, decides to lead a kangaroo court against Aubrey (Brenna Llewellyn), known as “pride”, for tattle-telling on the group for improprieties.  But when Aubrey goes missing, others in the group begin to turn up murdered.  Is their a serial killer come to their otherwise peaceful community.

Holly Amber Church, interviewed on Episode 471, who’s worked on numerous films including Open 24 Hours, was the composer to the movie.  Besides Kaitlyn Bernard and Brenna Llewellyn, the cast includes Breena Coates, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, Jasmine Randhawa, Carly Fawcett, and Natalie Malaika as the other five sins.  Dark Discussions takes a look at this recently released genre film.

Dark Discussions Podcast began on March 9th, 2011 and so comes March 9th, 2021.  Ten years of podcasts.  Crazy how time flies.  So what we decided to do for our tenth year anniversary was put a poll up on our Facebook group and let members choose what film for us to do to celebrate.  There were over thirty films to choose from, and ALIENS (1986) was the one that came up on top.

When Ripley’s escape shuttle is found, she is offered by the corporation to check up on a colony of civilians on LV-426.  When the colony is reported missing, the trip turns into a rescue.  When the space marines arrive, they find nothing but an empty facility.  Soon as they turn a rescue mission into a search-and-find assignment, they begin to discover that they too may be in grave danger.

ALIENS was the sequel to the original 1979 ALIEN (directed by Ridley Scott).  At the helm was TERMINATOR (1984) director James Cameron.  He brought in a great group to work with including composer James Horner, special effects artist Stan Winston, cinematographer  Adrian Biddle, and editor Ray Lovejoy.  Dark Discussions takes a look at this science fiction horror classic and celebrates their tenth anniversary podcasting.
