  • 30 Minutes of Silence
September 23, 1857, will forever go down in the pages of church history as the date that God began the great work of the noon day prayer revival in New York City under the instrumentation of a layman, Jeremiah Lanphier. This meditation was delivered on the anniversary of that day and considers the first 30 minutes of silence that preceded what would become the greatest prayer awakening the world has ever seen.

  • The Disobedience of Man — Genesis 3:1-6
In Genesis 3:1-6, we come to the foundational account of humanity's fall into sin. In this sermon, Jeremiah Gabbard examines the disobedience of man and the events that brought sin and separation from God into the human race. This passage reveals three important aspects of man's departure from God: the resistance of God's will, the rejection of God's Word, and the desertion of God's way. The subtle work of the adversary, the devil, is also examined as he introduces doubt, contradicts God's Word, and suggests that God is withholding something good from man. The sermon also considers the pattern of temptation and its appeal to the body, soul, and spirit, contrasting the outward-in approach of temptation with the inward-out work of Christ. Genesis 3 reminds us that man cannot achieve righteousness through his own efforts, but is completely dependent upon the grace of God. This message challenges us to view the Fall from God's perspective and to recognize the seriousness of sin, the authority of God's Word, and man's need for divine grace. • The End Is Near—But What Does Near Mean? Mark 13:28-31
What did Jesus mean when He said, "When you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door"—while only a few verses later saying that no one knows the day or hour? In this in-depth expository sermon on Mark 13:28–31, we examine Jesus' parable of the fig tree and the meaning of His statement that His coming is "near." What does "near" actually mean? Can Christians know when Christ will return? What is the significance of the fig tree, summer, harvest, judgment, and the phrase "this generation will certainly not pass away"? Rather than trying to calculate the date of Christ's return, Jesus calls His followers to something deeper: certainty, readiness, encouragement, and confidence in His word If you enjoy the episode, please consider subscribing to the podcast and leaving a 5-stars rating. Since childhood, I've been drawn to the beauty and power of expository preaching—opening Scripture verse by verse and applying it to real life. After graduating from Moody Bible Institute, I spent the next 27 years serving as a youth pastor, senior pastor, church planter, and host of the Food For Your Soul radio broadcast. Along the way, I also earned a Master of Sacred Literature and a Doctor of Religious Studies. For more content from D. Richard Ferguson, visit TreasuringGod.com. • A Proper Hope
Israel is in for some tough times. The nation is still living in denial of the facts. They are looking to the world for help, rather than to God. That will change after they suffer greater persecution than they ever had to date. We need to pray for Jews to get saved in these last days so that they can escape the wrath to come.
