Candidates for Utah's open third Congressional District seat faced off in a debate last night. Republican Mike Kennedy and Democrat Glenn Wright responded to questions about AI, housing, immigration, and home prices. What was mostly a civil debate ended with a sour rebuke by Wright during the final handshake. Maura and Dave discuss the content of the debate, and how we can disagree better.

KSL NewsRadio Reporter Don Brinkerhoff recently spoke to Washington County Clerk Ryan Sullivan about mail-in voting in Washington County. After former CD2 candidate Colby Johnson claimed that mail sent to Las Vegas was postmarked as late and wrongly counted, Sullivan conducted experiments in the timeliness of mail delivery to Las Vegas and back. His results showed that the postmark in Vegas was not reason for major concern. Maura and Dave listen in on some of Brinkerhoff's and Sullivan's interview, and discuss the question "Have we overcomplicated voting?"

Growing population across the state, especially in Salt Lake and Utah Counties, is leading Utahns to worry about the future of water access. State legislators have prioritized the health of the Great Salt Lake in recent years, as conservation efforts kick in and snowfall fills reservoirs. Maura and Dave talk about water waste, agriculture, and the idea of not having enough water for a growing population.

Ruby Franke, family vlogger and lifestyle influencer, was arrested in August of 2023 on six felony charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect, pleading guilty in court. Shari Franke, Ruby's eldest daughter spoke to Utah Legislators regarding her experience growing up with so much of her life on public display online. Dave and guest host Maura Carabello discuss the complications surrounding making financial income through online content and posting children online.

Things are moving in education on a national and local level. On Thursday the Biden Administration approved $4.5 billion in relief to help teachers, firefighters and other service workers that have been paying off their debt for over 10 years. House Speaker Mike Schultz is instructing Utah's higher education institutions to trim their budgets by 10%. Dave explores the costs of higher education from tuition costs, to administration costs and student loans.  

Over 450 student teachers will get a $6k stipend this year for their services as a bill passed during the spring legislation session takes effect. Rep. Karen Peterson, who spearheaded the bill, joins Dave to discuss how the bill came to be, why she was motivated to make a change in student teacher's learning, and what this means for future teachers and their classrooms here in Utah. Dave takes calls to see what the listeners think of this new stipend. 

The United States has attacked five military sites controlled by Houthi forces in Yemen by using B-2 bombers for precision strikes against weapons storage locations. Boyd Matheson, host of Inside Sources talks with Dave about what the US is doing in Yemen and the impact it has on the rest of the region. Dave and Boyd react to the confirmed killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, considered to be the mastermind of the October 7th attack on Israel.
