What will the school board do with this: teachers who are returning to the classroom in Jordan School District found out that online teachers are getting bonus pay. The Deseret News & KSL-TV broke the news about Jordan Districts giving online teachers a $3,000 stipend, but no bonus for in person teachers. Amy Donaldson joins us to tell us more.

We’re seeing an encouraging trend in Utah as COVID cases continue to drop, along with hospitalizations. The data says most Utahns are catching COVID-19 at home, so health officials are cautioning us to take some extra precautions--like no hugging for a while.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off tonight--a four day event forced to go almost entirely virtual because of COVID-19. It was planned to take place in Milwaukee, but now delegates won't be there, and speakers will be setting up cameras to either tape their speeches or stream them live. A few speeches tonight seem likely to bring a lot of attention. First Lady Michelle Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders will speak, along with former governor of Ohio and 2016 Republican candidate for President John Kasich. Boyd Matheson joins to break it down.

Thousands of Utah students start school this morning either from home or in the classroom. Murray City School District, Wasatch County School District, and a number of private catholic schools get started today. Other Utah schools follow later this week and next. How closely will parents in other districts be paying attention to schools handle the first day back today? We talked to Murray City Schools Superintendent Jennifer Covington to see how her first day of school is going.

Though many parents are sending their kids to school, others are keeping their kids home for remote-learning. Students and teachers had to scramble in the Spring--COVID-19 began to spread, and distance learning was a must to finish the school year. How much progress did students lose in those several months as their education was completely disrupted? Dave has a thought: conduct standardized testing at the beginning of the year to see where students are at. Darin Nielsen, Assistant Superintendent over Student Learning at the Utah State Board of Education will tell us if that's a possibility.

Reports suggest that more Utah students will return to schools for in-person instruction than expected. Ben Horsley says that Granite School District expects to see about 90% of its students returning to schools. That's more than he expected--but did it catch Granite School District off guard? And how do teachers feel about it, especially older or vulnerable teachers?
