Five days ago state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn drew a line in the sand, telling state leaders in a memo that if we don't slow the surge by July 1st we risk a complete shutdown. Now, all eyes are on the Governor. What's his plan to slow the surge? And the new wrinkle: the mayors of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County are calling on him to make masks mandatory. Will he? Rep. Paul Ray, who is a member of the task force, joins to discuss--then we talk to Mayor Jenny Wilson about who would enforce her mask mandate if allowed.

All week long, we've been talking with the candidates vying to be Utah's next member of Congress as Rep. Rob Bishop gets set to leave his post in the House. Bob Stevenson, Katie Witt, and Blake Moore have all joined the show and today we talk to Kerry Gibson. He's a fan of local control and "protecting Hill Air Force base." We'll ask him how he plans to do that.

We're not too far away from the fourth of July, but if you're a regular to Salt Lake City's fireworks show on the fourth you're going to be disappointed. Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced that the usual Jordan Park and Liberty Park shows are canceled due to an "upswing in COVID-19 cases." But that wasn't your only hope. There will be several synchronized shows in Utah County with bigger and better fireworks--that allow for social distancing.

Gov. Gary Herbert is expected to make a decision today on whether or not he'll allow Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson's requirement that masks be worn in her county. He says he's "inclined" to do so. Meanwhile, faith leaders from around the state are calling on worshipers to wear a mask. Who much weight will those messages carry?
