  • Softy and Dick H1 - Ken Behring dies: Your thoughts? / Harold Reynolds on the M's, and the game of baseball / Ban the shift?
Former Seahawks owner Ken Behring has died. He's most remembered around here for trying to move the team to LA in 1996, which naturally means most longtime Seahawks fans aren't so fond of the man. The Seahawks posted earlier that they were "saddened" by the loss of Behring. Saddened? Look, you don't have to be dancing on the guy's grave, but unless you knew him personally, are you really that sad? We don't feel much of anything at all. Former Mariner Harold Reynolds joins us, talking about he team's current rebuild, the legacy of the 195 season, and ways he'd improve the game of baseball if he could. Reynolds suggests that banning the shift would be a huge benefit to the game, but is that the right strategy?

  • Softy and Dick H2 - Klay Thompson and max vs. supermax contracts / Bill Krueger on the Mariners / Textimonials
The Warriors are reportedly set to offer Klay Thompson a five-year $190 million max contract, which isn't as much as a supermax contract. Had he made the All NBA team he'd be eligible for that. So what's the difference between the two? We briefly explain. The M's have actually had a decent week. So will it continue, or will the team fade back to where it was? Bill Krueger has thoughts on the team, plus his reaction to Harold Reynolds wanting to ban the shift, plus his own suggestion to improve baseball. Textimonials react to all of this and more at 49451.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Who would you most like to have back? / Fun with Audio: Flashback Friday / Vanderbilt's Ethan Paul / Rating fanbases
Softy asks, of all of the big names that have left the Seahawks over the last couple of seasons, who would you most like to have back on this team at their prime. The consensus on the show teems to be Earl Thomas. On Fun with Audio, Mike Francesa melts down over a Mets loss, and we remember the anniversaries of a couple of big events; Gary Payton being drafted, and the last game in the Kingdome. Ethan Paul of Vanderbilt, and a Newport High alum, joins the show after winning the College World Series this week. A new fanbase rating suggests that maybe the Hawks fans don't travel as well as we thought they did.

  • Softy and Dick H1 - We won the Mets trade / What motivates you to go to games? / Anthony Davis waives kicker / Harry Shipp
The Mariners are back! Yes, they lost today for the first time since last weekend, but the bigger story was the Mets' loss to Philly due to former M Edwin Diaz giving up five runs in the ninth, much to the dismay of Mike Francesa. It's not the first time Diaz hasn't looked good of late, and when you combine that with Cano's problems, and everything we've gotten in return for those two guys, it looks like we've won that trade. Baseball attendance is in trouble, and the M's in particular are down because, well, the team isn't good, so what can the team do to get more fans to go to games? What motivates you to go to baseball games? Anthony Davis has waived his $4 million kicker, and reportedly it's because he's going to make an extra $4 million for his role in Space Jam 2. Wait, is that allowed? Sounders midfielder Harry Shipp drops by the studio to talk about Saturday's match against Vancouver, Chad Marshall, plus thoughts on flopping and more.

  • Softy and Dick H2 - Is it fair to criticize the Hawks for Malik McDowell? / Gregg Bell on McDowell and more / Textimonials
Malik McDowell was in court today following two incidents earlier this year, one involving a scuffle with the cops, the other involving a stolen truck. There were character questions about McDowell from the very beginning, but the Hawks drafted him anyway. Is it okay to criticize the team for making the pick? Gregg Bell of The News Tribune joins us to look further into the McDowell story, plus thoughts on a timeline for a Bobby Wagner deal, and more. Textimonials react to all of this at 49451.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Baseball: No personality / Christian Caple on the Dawgs / A look at the defense / Changes to the NBA season
All Stars are being announced, and of course the M's will get at least one obligatory player. Do you even care who it is? There was a point in time when the All Star game was a big deal, but those days are long gone. Not only has the exhibition game lost its excitement, but the game of baseball has as well, and much of that has to do with the complete lack of personality from most of its stars. We're getting closer day by day to the Husky football season. The Athletic's Christian Caple runs through it with us. How big of a step back to we expect the defense to take? There's less experience, but still a lot of talent. The NBA is considering reducing the number of games in the season, but more interestingly, changing the way the playoffs work, requiring seeds 5-8 to play in a play-in series. It's far too easy to make the playoffs now as it is. This new system would force teams to earn it.

  • Softy and Dick H1 - Kevin Durant declines option / Is Chris Petersen a hypocrite on recruiting? / John Stanton as an owner
Kevin Durant has declined his option with the Golden State Warriors for next season, opening up the potential for him to go elsewhere. It could also be a great move for the Warriors as well, giving them a chance to re-negotiate a deal that wouldn't leave them on the hook for $30 million while Durant is injured for much of next season. Either way, the speculation can now go into overdrive. Gee Scott Jr. has been offered by Washington after committing to Ohio State six months ago. There have been some (Puckett) who have claimed that Chris Petersen is a hypocrite based on comments he's made previously. We're, of course, not so sure about that. Ryan Divish wrote a piece talking a lot about John Stanton and his role as an owner with the Mariners. It shed new light on him, not just as the guy in charge, but as a fan of the team. He hasn't been the owner of the team all that long, so the jury is still out on him as an owner so far, but we're starting to get a better idea. How has John Stanton been as an owner so far?

  • Softy and Dick H2 - What's next for KD? / Update on the Poll: Servais / Petros Papadakis: Petersen, Browning, Bellinger / Textimonials
Now that Kevin Durant has declined his option for next season, where is he going next? Is he going to strike a new deal with the Warriors? Play in New York? A team that signs him now is essentially paying him for an extra year in which he won't play. We update Dick's poll on Scott Servais; is he on the hot seat this season? It was close, but the answer with the most votes was "it doesn't matter". It's a throwaway season anyway. Unless the team completely quits on him, he isn't to blame. Petros joins us as he does every Wednesday at 4:20 courtesy of the 520 Bar and Grill talking Chris Petersen's recruiting, Jake Browning, Cody Bellinger's "attacker", and more. Textimonials react to the Browning and Petersen conversations.

  • Softy and Dick H3 - Four-star receiver Jalen McMillan / Reflecting on Jake Browning / Bonta Hill on the Warriors / You Don't Know Dick!
Jalen McMillan verbally committed to the UW just a few days ago. Now, the four-star wide receiver joins us to talk about why he chose to become a Husky. Petros took exception to Dick's claim that Jake Browning wasn't a good quarterback. Softy says we should reflect on all of Browning's accomplishments at Washington. Kevin Durant has declined his option with Golden State for next season. Is this Warriors team a sinking ship? We get thoughts from Bonta Hill of 95.7 The Game. We play another round of You Don't Know Dick!

  • Softy and Dick H1 - Jalen McMillan verbally commits to UW / Phil Steele's college football preview / If the Dawgs can keep this going...
Big news today as Jalen McMillan has verbally committed to Washington. He may be the highest-rated recruit to commit to UW in the Chris Petersen era. The Dawgs look to be strong this year, but Phil Steele says they may be second in the division behind Oregon. He explains the ranking in depth with us, plus thoughts on the college football playoff and more. The Dawgs may lose some experience on defense, yet could still be a very strong team this year. If they can compete without taking a step back, there may be no slowing them down going forward.
