Dave’s life in Slovenia caught the attention of a RADIO STATION – RADIJSKA POSTAJA. They wanted to do an INTERVIEW - INTERVJU with him about his life in Slovenia. As Dave never had a radio appearance before, he did experience TREMA – STAGE FRIGHT. The technician quickly managed to calm him down, saying the recording IS NOT LIVE – NI V ŽIVO… So, after Dave calmed down, he got his HEADPHONES - SLUŠALKE and MICROPHONE - MIKROFON set, and it was time for the interview to start!!!

The dance teacher Pola and Fani are putting Dave through his paces. He'll get the hang of it. He's also learning some important dance lingo in Slovene. VODITI is TO LEAD, DRSATI is TO SLIDE, BOKI are HIPS and KORAK is A STEP. NAPREJ is FORWARDS, NAZAJ is BACKWARDS, OBRNI SE is TURN AROUND, TELO is BODY and DUŠA is SOUL. It's the early days but I'm sure that Dave will find his PASSION - STRAST for DANCE - PLES soon.

Today the ice cream man, Sladoledar Sandi, made Dave & Mia's wishes come true. Dave got VANILIJA - VANILLA (and not broccoli) FLAVOUR – OKUS. Mia had ČOKOLADA - CHOCOLATE and LUBENICA – WATERMELON. Dave learned that PULT is COUNTER. He wanted a ŠALČKA - a TUB/CUP which was NA PULTU – ON THE COUNTER… But Mia wanted him to have a KORNET - CONE. Dave also learned that KAVA Z MLEKOM is COFFEE WITH MILK, KAVA S SMETANO is COFFEE WITH CREAM... And the MAGIC WORD – ČAROBNA BESEDA is PLEASE - PROSIM!

Today Dave found out that SPRING is POMLAD, SUMMER is POLETJE, AUTUMN or FALL is JESEN, and WINTER is ZIMA. These are the LETNI ČASI - the SEASONS. He also learned an unusual saying »Boš dobil volka v rito« - you'll get a wolf in your bottom… which means if you don't dress properly in spring, you'll get sick… It's better to be ZAŠVICAN/PREPOTEN – SWEATY and not sit on cold steps... but it's OK to eat SLADOLED – ICE CREAM, apparently!

It’s not a FLYING CARPET – LETEČA PREPROGA, but it is an EXPENSIVE CARPET – DRAGA PREPROGA… Fani says it looks MAGICAL - ČAROBNO. She loves the PATTERNS - VZORCI, it’s HAND-MADE – ROČNO NAREJENO, and it does have 20,000 KNOTS - VOZLOV. It was MADE IN IRAN – NAREJENO V IRANU. But Dave and Fani have plenty of carpets to choose from, they can also buy a SVILENA PREPROGA – SILK CARPET, or a VOLNENA PREPROGA – WOOLEN CARPET.

Today Dave learned that NEVERJETNO means UNBELIEVABLE, PRVA OBLETNICA is FIRST ANNIVERSARY, DRUGA is SECOND and TRETJA is THIRD. He also practised his colours, although not too successfully… RDEČA - RED, BELA - WHITE, RUMENA - YELLOW and ZELENA - GREEN. He learned that a 'PLOŠČA' usually has a lot of meat on it, Slovenes love their SALAD - SOLATA... and whatever you do, don't flirt... or should I say… be too friendly with the waitress... PRIPOROČAM – I RECOMMEND IT!

Today Dave really had BAD LUCK – “IMEL JE SMOLO” … The PIPE BURST - je POČILA PIPA in the THEATRE - v GLEDALIŠČU. He also learned ROW is VRSTA and SEAT is SEDEŽ. They were sitting IN THE 7TH ROW – V SEDMI VRSTI on SEATS 14 and 15 - na ŠTIRINAJSTEM in PETNAJSTEM SEDEŽU.

So, while poor Dave picks himself up off the floor, let's take a look at some of the new words he learned today. BETON is CONCRETE, JEKLO is STEEL, LES is WOOD, OPEKA is BRICK, and MALTA is MORTAR. He also learned an unusual one... a CEMENT MIXER is called a 'HRUŠKA', which also means PEAR. And Dave's not thinking about DOJENČKI - BABIES, MALČKI -TODDLERS or OTROCI - CHILDREN just yet… He has a HOUSE - HIŠA and a HONEYMOON - MEDENI TEDEN to pay for first!

Today Dave learned a few new important words for everyday life in Slovenia. POLICA is a SHELF, ISKATI – TO LOOK/SEARCH FOR, IZGUBITI is TO LOSE and NAJTI is TO FIND. A MISSED CALL is a ZGREŠEN/NEODGOVORJEN KLIC, a WRONG NUMBER is a NAPAČNA ŠTEVILKA and if Dave TIDIED UP – POSPRAVLJATI once in a while, he wouldn't have to LOSE HIS NERVES - IZGUBITI ŽIVCE.

Next time, it’ll be better if Dave takes out different kinds of WASTE – SMETI, one at a time, and not ALL AT ONCE – VSE NAENKRAT. And Dave learned that Slovenians also have WASTE SORTING – LOČEVANJE ODPADKOV. They separately dispose of their PAPER – PAPIR, PLASTIC – PLASTIKA, GLASS –STEKLO and ORGANIC WASTE – BIOLOŠKI ODPADKI.
