Lee Marks, JaMarcus Shephard, Inoke Breckterfield, Eric Schmidt, William Inge, and Julius Brown spoke with the media this week ahead of Washington's game versus top-10 Michigan State.
Michael Penix, Jr., Richard Newton, Jack Westover, Jeremiah Martin, Sav'ell Smalls, Carson Bruener, Makell Esteen, and Jaden Green all spoke to the media this week ahead of Washington's big non-conference game Saturday afternoon versus top-10 foe Michigan State at Husky Stadium.
Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb, co-Defensive Coordinator Chuck Morrell, and Head Coach Kalen DeBoer spoke Monday to the press to recap UW's 52-6 win over Portland State and look ahead to the Huskies' biggest game so far, a matchup with top-10 Michigan State Saturday at Husky Stadium.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and Josh Wodka - gathered together after Washington's 52-6 win over Portland State Saturday afternoon and broke down all the relevant storylines.
Obviously to start, it was a game where offensive efficiency ruled the day. Michael Penix, Jr. went 20-27 for 337 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by an 84-yard pitch and catch to Jalen McMillan. The Huskies balanced out their passing attack with 241 yards on the ground, something they needed to show.
The receivers did their part too, despite not having Rome Odunze, who Kalen DeBoer said could have been used in an emergency but there was no need to rush him back from whatever niggle was ailing him.
The talk then moved to the defensive side of the ball, where a lot of good things happened for the Huskies en route to holding Portland State to 130 total yards, including 50 through the air. They kept mobile QB Dante Chachere to 6-17 passing and 5 net yards on 7 carries.
But there were some issues the defense will have to address, namely the number of bodies they'll have available at cornerback for the Michigan State game, and also some sloppiness that led to some unforced penalties.
To wrap up the recap, they talked about the availability for the guys that didn't play, like Odunze, Jaxson Kirkland, and Jordan Perryman, as well as DeBoer's announcement that safety Vincent Nunley is likely done for the season after being seen on the sidelines on crutches.
Michael Penix, Jr., Cameron Davis, Jalen McMillan, Giles Jackson, Bralen Trice, and Kalen DeBoer talked to the media after Washington's 52-6 win over the Portland State Vikings Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got up super early this morning to get a full preview recorded ahead of the Portland State-Washington game, set to start at 1 pm at Husky Stadium.
They start with a look at Washington's offense, looking specifically first at the offensive line and whether or not Jaxson Kirkland will get a lot of playing time against the Vikings. Then the talk moves to the running backs and the quarterbacks. How will the UW coaches approach mop-up time, if there is any? Will Dylan Morris come off the bench again, or will they give those snaps to Sam Huard?
After a break to help pay some bills, the conversation moves to the defensive side of the ball and specifically how the Huskies can try and contain PSU quarterback Dante Chachere. They had their moments of difficulty getting Kent State quarterback Collin Schlee down, and Chachere is an even bigger threat to run.
And how will the Huskies account for the loss of Jordan Perryman if the transfer cornerback can't go after getting banged up versus KSU?
To finish the podcast, the three give their final thoughts on the game, the matchups they'll be watching, and also a quick football and basketball recruiting update as the Huskies gear up for a huge visit weekend on September 17 versus Michigan State.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - sat down this week after talking to the Washington players and coaches to assess not only what they made of UW's 45-20 win over Kent State, but also what the players and coaches were focusing on as they prepared to take on Big Sky foe Portland State Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium.
We all know what happened the last time Washington hosted a Big Sky opponent and it wasn't pretty. The Dawgman guys asked some of the players and coaches about guarding against letting up or mentally assuming they've already won the game before it has started simply because UW is from the FBS and Portland State is from the FCS.
In the first part of the discussion, the guys broke down their observations after speaking with Head Coach Kalen DeBoer, Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb, and co-Defensive Coordinator William Inge.
The second part had to do with the conversations that revolved around the players and what they felt went right against Kent State, what went wrong against the Golden Flashes, and how to make sure they took advantage of the fact that the greatest improvement for a team in college football takes place between week one and week two.
After a quick break to pay some bills, the Dawgman guys wrap it up with their thoughts after speaking this week with some of the Washington coaches, and how they felt like their respective position groups fared during the Kent State win, as well as what they need to work on to make sure their '1-0' mentality continues to reap rewards this coming weekend.
The guys give their final thoughts on what they heard, and Kim also provides a quick men's basketball update after checking out a couple of players that happened to be practicing at Hec Ed this week.
Lee Marks, JaMarcus Shephard, Nick Sheridan, Scott Huff, and Julius Brown all spoke to the media ahead of Washington's Saturday game versus the Portland State Vikings. Kickoff is 1 pm.
Wayne Taulapapa, Jalen McMillan, Taj Davis, Asa Turner, Julius Irvin, and Jack McCallister talk to the media ahead of Washington's second game of the season versus Portland State.
Here is everything Washington co-DC William Inge, OC Ryan Grubb, and Head Coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday about UW's 45-20 win over Kent State, their next opponent - Portland State - as well as individual players that stood out during the Huskies week one win.
