Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie, offensive tackle Jaxson Kirkland, and interim head coach Bob Gregory spoke to the media Saturday night after the Huskies lost a fourth-quarter lead, and eventually the game, to Arizona State, 35-30.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - sorted through the wreckage of Washington's 35-30 loss to Arizona State Saturday night at Husky Stadium, and there was plenty to talk about.
They start with the first half, what went right for the offense under new playcaller Junior Adams, how they did not resemble themselves at all as they stormed out to a quick 14-0 lead, only to fall into old habits in the second half.
They opened things up, they tried both Dylan Morris and Sam Huard, and they had a 24-14 lead going into the fourth quarter. But in crunch time, the Huskies relied on their defense to stop ASU's run game, and that didn't happen.
What went wrong? What broke down? And why did the Huskies, who started the game like a house on fire, eventually submit like the team we've seen all season long?
To finish the podcast, the Dawgman guys talk about what is expected to be a very busy Sunday. It's when Jimmy Lake's suspension is lifted. And when that happens, will the Huskies give Lake the final two games to re-evaluate Lake's status as Washington's head coach? Or will the school decide to part ways with the embattled Lake?
After a tumultuous week on Montlake, the Huskies are heading into their game against Arizona State with a 4-5 record while their head coach is currently on suspension. There's been speculation Jimmy Lake could be let go, but before that plays out, Washington will take the field to face off with the Sun Devils this afternoon.
In place of fired offensive coordinator John Donovan, wide receivers coach Junior Adams will call the offensive plays for the Huskies and defensive coordinator Bob Gregory will be on the sidelines in Lake's place.
With Adams in charge, will he have a short leash on quarterback Dylan Morris who has struggled all season long? Waiting in the wings is freshman signal-call Sam Huard and there are rumors that the two split reps during the week. Could Dawg fans get a much longer look at Huard this week?
The guys from Dawgman touch on those subjects and give their keys to Washington getting a win in today's game.
They also discuss the Huskies basketball game on Thursday and how all of this coaching turmoil will impact recruiting over the next four weeks as they get closer to the early signing period which begins on December 15th this year.
The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - post their thoughts on Washington's upcoming game with Arizona State, but they first start out with the fallout from Washington's 26-16 loss to No. 4 Oregon.
The loss was tough enough to swallow, but UW Head Coach Jimmy Lake was suspended for a week after a sideline altercation with linebacker Ruperake Fuavai after a kickoff. Lake's suspension came on the heels of Lake firing offensive coordinator John Donovan after the game.
Do the guys think Lake will get one more chance to coach, or are his days on Montlake numbered? And who would have seen this kind of a program meltdown at UW from the 2019 Rose Bowl on?
Moving to the ASU game, Jack asks what seems to be the most relevant question for Washington's defense going in: if Travis Dye went for over 200 yards against UW, and ASU's Rachaad White ran for over 200 yards in his last game, why would the Sun Devils ever pass?
And if Jayden Daniels does decide to step back and heave it, who should UW target to get past on ASU's offensive line? And who do they need to be aware of as far as the Sun Devil receivers? Jack breaks it all down for you.
Moving to the other side of the ball, Luke talks about ASU's experience on defense, as well as their depth. They are wedded to their 4-3 front, and have been incredibly successful using it. But it's their linebackers that are really their heart and soul.
But are they vulnerable? Are there places where a Washington offense led by the new play-calling of Junior Adams can take advantage? And how does UW's offensive line match up at the line of scrimmage? Luke and Jack give their thoughts on this, and you're going to want to listen all the way until the end for this!
Emmitt Matthews, Jr., P.J. Fuller, and Mike Hopkins spoke to the media after Washington's 73-62 win over Northern Arizona Thursday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. Here's full audio of the press conference.
Washington OLB Coach Ikaika Malloe and OL Coach Scott Huff met with the media Wednesday to talk about the reorganization on both sides of the ball, getting their players refocused and ready for Saturday's game against Arizona State, and more.
Washington junior forward Nate Roberts and head coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media after Washington's season-opening 71-64 loss to Northern Illinois Tuesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Bob Gregory and wide receivers coach Junior Adams discuss their new roles with the team in light of Jimmy Lake's suspension and the firing of offensive coordinator John Donovan as well as the mood of the team heading into the final three games of the 2021 regular season.
Washington athletic director Jen Cohen made an announcement moments ago that Husky head coach Jimmy Lake has been suspended without pay for the next week. With that shocking news, there was a lot to break down.
How did we get here? What happens now? Who takes over? Will there be any further repercussions to Lake's actions on Saturday night where he physically put his hands on a player on the sideline, drawing the attention of the national media?
The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters -- discuss all of these topics and give their thoughts on where things might be headed in the very near future.
It's been a nuts 24 hours for Washington Football, but at the end of it we know one thing, and one thing only - John Donovan has been relieved of his duties. The man hired by Washington Head Coach Jimmy Lake to create and run a pro-style offensive attack has been let go 13 games into his tenure, replaced by Junior Adams - who will take over Donovan's playcalling duties - and Payton McCollum, who will coach the quarterbacks.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - provide their immediate reactions to the Donovan news on this emergency podcast, and also start to dig into the larger questions...like has Lake earned enough time and trust within the department to get a second chance, especially when it comes to the hiring of a new offensive coordinator? And perhaps most importantly, is this news simply window dressing that hides the larger question from view? And that question is, what is Washington going to do with Jimmy Lake?
Lake, already dealing with the embarrassment suffered via media gaffe early last week when he said Washington mainly recruits against "academically prowess schools", really stepped into some hot water when he got into an altercation with walk-on linebacker Ruperake Fuavai, who is part of UW's kick return team. Video showed Lake going after Fuavai, who had been tangled up with Oregon's Jaylon Redd at the end of a UW kick return in the first quarter. He was seen hitting Fuavai in the facemask and forehead of the helmet, and then repeatedly pushing Fuavai in the back after Fuavai turned away. It became enough of an event to cause Washington Athletic Director Jennifer Cohen to issue a statement about it, saying they were aware of it and were gathering more information.
But what to do with Lake at this point? Suspension? Or do you simply wait until the end of the season and cut bait? The Dawgman guys discuss this for a bit to wrap up the emergency pod.
